GLENBURN – Joseph Melvin Megquier Jr., 82, died Jan. 27, 2012, at a Bangor hospital, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born April 10, 1929, in Glenburn, son of Joseph M. and Marie F. (Drew) Megquier Sr.

He was a well-known salesman for 47 years in industrial supplies. Joe was a member of Bangor Baptist Church, Kenduskeag Lodge No. 137 AF & AM, Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Bangor, Maine Consistory 32 degree and Anah Shriners. He had served as a selectman for the town of Glenburn, was a former member of the planning board and a former trustee of Higgins Classical Institute.

Surviving are his wife, Jean (Cole) Megquier; a son, Philip J. Megquier; granddaughter, Jennifer M. Megquier; Gramp’s constant companion, Smokey, all of Glenburn; granddaughter, Renee C. Megquier; grandson, James P. Megquier; great-granddaughter, Sheena Golden, all of Hudson; two brothers, Merrill Megquier and his wife, Hilda, of Hudson and Sherwood Megquier and his wife, Marie, of Corinth; aunts, Marlene Farren and her husband, Bud, and Rose Megquier; one uncle, Richard Averill, all of Bangor; brother-in-law, David A. Cole and his wife, Ernestine, of Bangor; sister-in-law, Ann Chatfield and her husband, George, of Tampa, Fla.; many special cousins and friends.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a Masonic memorial service will be conducted 7:30 p.m. Monday by the officers and members of Kenduskeag Lodge. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Brookings-Smith with the Rev. Dr. Jerry Mick, senior pastor of Bangor Baptist Church, officiating. Spring interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Glenburn. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor, immediately after the service Tuesday.
