BANGOR, Maine — A local man is behind bars after he used text messages to threaten to kill his former girlfriend and then was found lurking near her home with a large knife, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Monday.
Corey Seward, 20, of Bangor, formerly of New Jersey, was charged with domestic violence criminal mischief, domestic violence terrorizing, carrying a concealed weapon and terrorizing. He was arrested after a brief standoff Sunday night with police on Division Street.
The 23-year-old victim went to police about 8 p.m. Saturday to report having received repeated text message threats.
“They were death threats, threats to her family, property — everything you could possibly imagine,” Edwards said.
The victim and Seward had been dating for about a month and he got upset when she decided to break off the relationship, the sergeant said.
“She was horrified” by the threats, Edwards said.
While she was at the police station, the victim got a call from a friend saying that Seward had stopped by her apartment to pick up some items and had vandalized her room, the sergeant said.
Police were notified to keep an eye out for Seward.
Officers Doug Smith and David Farrar reportedly found Seward around 7:45 p.m. Sunday a short distance from the victim’s apartment. A standoff in which police drew their guns took place in a driveway, Edwards said.
Seward was “being aggressive, threatening and making remarks that he’s not going to jail,” the sergeant said. “Guns were drawn.”
After several tense minutes, Seward was taken to the ground and arrested. He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail and remained there Monday morning on a probation hold, a jail official said.
Seward is on probation because he admitted in Hancock County Superior Court last year that he started a fire on Nov. 17, 2010, in a shed and portable toilet at a Maine Department of Transportation work site in Bucksport. In June 2011, he was sentenced to three years in jail with all but six months suspended, according to a Bangor Daily News story.
The fire caused roughly $12,000 in damage, police said at the time.
Seward, who listed a New Jersey address at the time and told police he was homeless, said he started the fire inside the portable toilet to keep warm and it spread. He was charged with arson and aggravated criminal mischief and pleaded guilty to the aggravated criminal mischief charge in exchange for dismissal of the arson charge, according to court documents. Seward, who was released after the sentencing for time served, also was ordered to serve two years of probation and to pay $8,146 in restitution.

another neck tat gone awry!
Aw ya beat me to it…
Send him back to NJ.
I would like to commend the officers and the Bangor PD for protecting this woman. I just hope the judge recognizes how dangerous he is and doesn’t give him a low bail amount. To the girl, you are lucky to get out of this so quickly. You made the right choice and you are brave.
$10 says judge releases him on under $500 bail.
No deal! No doubt you’d win!
Probably, $50.00 and give the knife back…
Once in a great while I wish the police were trigger happy
I so agree. This dirt bag will end up killing someone before it’s over.
This man has displayed a very strong inability to control his rage. He has also shown that he is likely to become violent. He made no attempt to hide his criminal threats which shows me he also has impulse control problems.
He should be considered violent and kept in jail awaiting a trial or plea. Then two or three years in prison to think about why shouldnt threaten people with death might do him some good.
…
These guys must stand in front of a mirror and practice their “tough guy” faces in the likely event of an upcoming mug shot.
the look on his face and his eyes says a thousand words… he’s not looking at anything, he’s looking through everything. . . i’d order a psych eval before even considering bail, and the state should do the samething… mark my words, if this sad exscuse for a man is released on bail, it’s a matter of when he hurts someone, not if.
Seward, who was released after the sentencing for time served, also was ordered to serve two years of probation and to pay $8,146 in restitution. In June 2011, he was sentenced to three years in jail with all but six months suspended. Your Honor, suspened sentences, 2 years probation, paying restitution seems to have had little effect on Mr. Seward. He has NO intention of conforming to any set of laws. If found guilty of his new charges I suggest imposing the maximum time allowed and revoke his previous suspension. Anything else would be considered condoning his actions.
He’s in the toilet once again. With a mug shot like that I am so glad I am not representing him. He evidently has never heard ..”smile and wave boys, smile and wave”.
Looks like he might have eaten some pavement in the takedown.

He “started a fire inside a portable toilet to keep warm”?! Dude….. And nice tough-guy mug shot, he thinks he’s Eminen or whatever. I bet he goes into Maine jail all tough acting only to find out that he’s in a totally unrespectable mostly white hick-hilton for dunk drivers and bath salts freaks. Not exactly rap-album material for wannabe tough-guys who think prison rep is cool.
So what’s up with all the knives, machetes, and baseball bats in Bangor the last year or so?
