SUFFOLK, Va. – Margaret Mary Ellis Smith, 74, passed away Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012. She was born Feb. 21, 1937, in Millinocket, daughter of the late Margaret and Harold Ellis.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Samuel Smith; and a brother, George Ellis. She is survived by her son, Mark Smith and wife, Natalie, of Richmond, Va.; a daughter, Catherine Spanka and husband, David, of Suffolk, Va.; two brothers, John Ellis of Bangor and Charles Ellis of Rapid City, S.D.; a sister, Elizabeth May of Woodbridge, Va.; five grandchildren, Shannon Pociask and husband, Tony, Caitlyn Hildebrandt and husband, Andrew, Allison Spanka, Spencer Smith and Quinn Smith; three great-grandsons, Landon Pociask, Liam Hildebrandt and Bradon Pociask; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veteran Cemetery. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel is handling arrangements.
