BUCKSPORT and DEDHAM – Phyllis L. Mann, 89, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, with her loving family by her side at home. She was born April 23, 1922, in Bucksport, the daughter of Clifford and Hazel (Emerson) Colby.

She graduated from Bucksport High School in 1940 and attended business college in Boston. She worked for Cushing Ice Cream Parlor, Bucksport, and was a homemaker. Phyllis was an avid bird watcher, and enjoyed gardening and reading. She also enjoyed camping with her husband in her earlier years. She was a member of East Bucksport United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years.

She is survived by her children, Betty Reed of Orland, Kenneth Mann and wife, Marilyn, of Soldotna, Alaska, William Mann and wife, Virginia, of South Paris, and Frederick Mann and roommate, Cindy Harriman, of Orland; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and two cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Walter A. Mann, in 2001; three brothers, “Bud” Colby, “Rudd” Colby and one infant brother; one son-in-law, John Reed; and one daughter-in-law, Beverly Mann.

At Phyllis’ request there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Oak Grove Cemetery, Orland. Donations in Phyllis’ memory may be made to Buck Memorial Library, P.O. Box DD, Bucksport, ME 04416. Arrangements are under the direction of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
