Democratic playbook

I’m amused with the media’s reporting that Republicans have set out on a national agenda with a secret strategy to suppress the votes of Democrats, especially minorities and the disadvantaged.

These claims have no basis in fact, but like most accusations made by Democrats, and then echoed by the liberal main stream media, facts don’t matter. Democrats believe that just saying something makes it so. And then, by endlessly repeating the fabrication it some how makes it true. Not so!

Democrats and liberals follow a playbook of denial when faced with undeniable facts.

For example, Acorn, the liberal “community organizing” group that has had any number of workers convicted of voter fraud in election all across this country. Where is the outcry from the media?

Yet when the Republicans, here in Maine, suggest using some form of voter ID, we’re told, “Please shut up and sit down. There is no such thing as voter fraud! Thanks you very much.”

Well, if you’re not looking for it, you won’t find it! The decision to create a study to look at the election process as a whole is just another example of Republicans working to address serious problems in a comprehensive way.

First we were told, “There’s no problem with the Maine Turnpike Authority.” Then, “Don’t worry about the Maine Housing Authority.” Now it’s, “Voter fraud, what voter fraud?”

A comprehensive examination of Maine’s electoral system is exactly what’s needed.

Tank moratorium needed

Based on the Jan. 26 meeting with DCP Midstream officials in Searsport, I believe we must garner as much support as possible for a yes vote on the proposed moratorium on March 10.

DCP officials promised to answer all of our questions; they did not and numerous town folk were not able to speak. DCP asked to collect email addresses to respond to unanswered questions. Not everyone wants to share their personal information.

DCP brought in a number of our town supporters and union members. We were standing near some who told us not very nicely that if we did not like the project to “get out of town” and they would move in (perhaps an insinuation that they plan to vote at our town meeting?).

DCP did not speak adequately to the exact location of the LP tank flare and the size of its flame. DCP has gone on record as criticizing the Thanks But No Tank’s scale model of the tank, yet has not produced one, something that is common for such a massive project. The pictures they display of how the tank will be viewed are clearly inadequate if not deceptive.

Lastly, DCP failed to adequately address the lighting and decibel levels surrounding the tank.

I’ll roll my own

In reply to “Gimmick,” the Letter to the Editor by Edward Miller of the American Lung Association (Jan. 16), the smokers of Maine are getting tired of paying the bills.

It seems like every time someone is spending too much money they say all they have to do is tax tobacco another $10 per carton. How much are we paying now, $20 to $30?

Do you think we are paying tax on tax when we buy tobacco? Sounds like we are being singled out.

To be fair, let’s raise the sales tax so we all pay. We could put a tax on liquor, or charge $100 for every new car sold. That would raise some money!

Mr. Miller said we do not go to New Hampshire, we quit. How wrong. We go to New Hampshire, we order by phone from other states, we roll our own, etc.

I roll my own. I’m paying one-third of the taxes I used to.

Needed heat, jobs

As a retired person, I am concerned about heating bills. We have a chance right now to bring in another heating supply with the proposed propane tank in Searsport. This is good news.

Common sense tells you another heating supply will mean lower prices, competition drives prices down no matter what.

Propane is a good heating source and there is no reason it can’t be here in my hometown instead of having to rely on oil from overseas. We have struggled during this recession to pay our bills, just like most people in Searsport. We need this heating source and the jobs that will come with it.

  1. Jim Carlton:  In my observations, it’s Republicans who think if they say (or yell) something often enough, it must be so.  Sure, it happens on both sides but Repblicans seem to provide the significant majority.  If much of their rhetoric had taht much validity, it would be better recieved.

Jerry Smith:  many of us, a distinct majority, feel you should pay more to support your filthy habit.  Go ahead, go to NH (and how much does the gasoline cost you, or do you illegally smuggle karge quantities).  Go ahead, roll your own and roll yourself into oblivion, dragging all around you along with.

    1. The “Gay Gene”  No proof but the Dems and Leftist losers keep saying it exists.  The Leftist believe if they keep saying a falsity often enough it must be true.  Proof not needed by Leftists.

A distinct majority, lazy Dems and Leftists always feel they have a right to other peoples legally earned money.  If we could only tax the stupidity of the Dems, the coffers would be full and we’d be running a surplus.

      1. Off topic but so what.

One definition of a genetic disease, disorder or trait is if one twin has it and the other twin has 50% or higher occurance of that trait then it is genetic.  Twins who have one gay twin are 50% more likely to have the second twin be gay.  Thus being gay fits one of the definitions of a geneticly inherited trait.

        http://www.thetech.org/genetics/ask.php?id=155

“A number of studies have looked at homosexuality in twins, all with similar
results. For example, in one study, if one identical twin was gay, the other was
also gay 50% of the time. If they were fraternal twins, they were both gay 22%
of the time. And if one was adopted, the chances fell to 11%.”

Genes are so complicated that there are very few traits that can be traced to a specific gene using technology we currently have.  Most traits involve multiple genes, for example blue eyes are obviously genetic but until recently we could not identify those genes.

      2. It is the deadbeat millionaires you worship who are the lazy useless ones who want more and more tax cuts just to hide it in the Caymans and in Swiss accounts.  And the brainwashed FakeNews lovers help them.  Your fatcat ilk are lazy deadbeat job killers.  Yes, lazy deadbeats of the most disgusting kind.

        1. LOL.  If we got the tax cuts then we wouldn’t need offshore tax havens.  Only 23% of millionaires inherited their $ the rest worked for it.

      3. Why all the ill will and name calling?  It sure doesn’t lend credence to your point of view.  In fact, it does just the opposite.  You come across as un-enlightened.

    2. The charges of voter suppression directed at Republicans is a very flimsy and emotional one at best. There is no evidence to support that contention. It’s all about politics as usual.

  2. Carlton screeching about ACORN, a phony liberal media bias, and minorities — gee, wonder where he gets his news from!

  3. Jerry Smith, Shhhhhhhhhh! Roll your own has been flying under the radar of the taxing authority theives. Don’t draw attention to it!

  4. Jim Carlton–read my lips–There is no voter fraud in Maine.

While you’re busy comprehensively examining Maine’s electoral system, how about looking into IRV–Instant runoff voting.  It would greatly enhance the likelihood that we would elect representatives supported by the majority and severely lessen the amount of buffoons and special interest flunkies bending our government to meet their handlers needs.

  5. Oh please Jim…Just keep being a prison guard lackey for the 1%…I’m sure they won’t kick you to the curb when they no longer have a use for you. Don’t expect them to toss you any crumbs.

  6. Jim – We The People overturned your party’s attempt at voter suppression last November.

No one is buying what you – and Head Clown Charlie Webster – are selling.

    Nossuh

  7. Great letter Jim, the libs really start their hand wringing and crying when you point out all the corruption they cultivated the past couple of decades. Turnpike and Housing Authority, DHHS, and Education just the tip of the iceberg. But they really fly off the handle when you mention their only way to get back in office, cooking the voting books.

    1. How about the 12 republican US House members now under investigation for financial fraud? Or the Secretary of State for Indiana, also a republican named Charlie (White), under indictment for voter fraud? Or the Maine republican who just resigned for misuse of campaign funds? Let’s not forget the minions working for Scott Walker who are under indictment for so many crimes. I’ll bet you are so concerned about them you forgot to mention those prime examples of republican integrity.

    2. You forgot to mention Maine State Treasurer Bruce Poliquin, but then he is a republican isn’t he?

  8. Jim Carlton, ACORN was investigated by Attorneys Generals of 4 different state, city and the GAO and it was found there was no basis for claiming fraud by the organization. There were instances of employees committing crimes unknown to the managers at ACORN. The heavily edited videos made by a convicted felon proved only that the right wing nuts will go to any length, break any laws, in order to promote their agenda.
Where is your concern for the 12 republican US House members currently being investigated for financial irregularities?
What about the republican in Maine who just resigned for misuse of campaign finances?
The attempt at voter suppression is a well documented nationwide effort from the playbook of ALEC, a right wing group which, like other right wing propaganda organizations, refuses to disclose donors to its propaganda efforts.
Your letter is a perfect example of the right wing policy of repeating a lie often in the hopes everyone will believe it. Today, with the proliferation of computers and search engines, it is very easy to refute your bogus claims.

    1. There you go confusing the right wing with facts, don’t worry they will just be louder with their lies hoping most will believe them.
      Stop with the facts already.

      1. I know I should, but some of these right wing nuts are so full of themselves that I just can’t help poking fun at them with the facts. I guess that makes me a baaaad boy. I just picture them sputtering and with spittle coming off the corners of their mouths as they try to find something from Faux Snooze to refute what I say.

  9. LNG tanker in Boston Harbor this week – all waterway traffic stops from commuter ferries to pleasure craft and more, as security escort gives safe passage. Security on the ferry – armed and unfriendly. We can look forward to this? Maine – the way life USED to be.

  10. DCP and proponents for the tank say that Mack Point is already an industrial sight, so why not bring on more.  Because there are tanks there already, doesn’t mean more should be constructed.  All of them are a problem. I wonder how happy  Irving, Sprague and GAC are now that  DCP’s covert methods to get their tank constructed have forced more public scrutiny on all operations at Mack Point.  Maine communities need support from local, state and federal officials who are supposed to serve US, their constituents.  NO to exploitation of  our communities for corporate profit. Mainers – do not drink the DCP cool-aid.  At their meeting last week DCP reps claimed they would hire locals BEFORE/OVER everyone else.  What about the federal and state regulations  they must follow?  To make this claim is dishonest.  And corporations bring in crews to build their structures – they want it built NOW and  fast.  You can bet there’ll be little advanced training –  Ms. Elliot of DCP said as much when she responded to a question last week about DCP’s efforts to block the Moratorium.  She said DCP wanted this project to happen NOW.  I guess tampering with local politics to sway the vote is DCP’s way of showing  the community how much they care.Do not believe the corporate rhetoric.  Corporations have bought and sold our politicians at all levels, and we aren’t sharing in the profits.  Our ever growing class and economic divide happened while we were shopping for cheap junk at Wal-Mart.  The earnest need for Searsport (heck, any port) to have decent jobs is real and must be addressed.  But don’t be fooled; this tank will not bring vitality and prosperity to Searsport – it will destroy it. Google: KOCH BROTHERS to see the kind of corporation Conoco-Phillips is. The  Koch Brothers own the world, and they won’t be sharing their profits with us.  Support local businesses.  Shop locally and our merchants will have a reason to employ us in our communities.Flag

  11. Jim Carlton, “Well, if you’re not looking for it, you won’t find it! The decision to create a study to look at the election process as a whole is just another example of Republicans working to address serious problems in a comprehensive way.”

I believe that all the news media reported on what the two Charlies have found in their fact finding expeditions about voter fraud. I think the sum total of their investigation turned up one illegal alien attempting to vote. Obviously not a very intelligent illegal in that if they wanted to remain unknown they should have stayed below the horizon.

Who knows maybe there was vast voter fraud in the last round of elections in Maine. That’s how we ended up with the bunch we now are enjoying the fruits of.

  12. Mr. Moulton,
You should know that rather than offer competition, DCP desires to control Maine’s propane market. Their own plans show that they will  bring in more propane than all of  Maine consumes driving out all competition.  Their corner on the market will mean higher prices not lower. You should know that this LPG will is imported as well. DCP’s parent ConcoPhillips has a bigpartnership with Qatargas to market LNG and LPG, so we can guess where it will come from.As a retiree you should be very wary, because if the opponents of the tank are correct, and the tax base declines because of the effect of the tank on business and summer traffic and  house values along route 1 and along the shore it will mean higher taxes for you. For all of us.You should read the letter Jeannie Lucas wrote about the moratorium (above)  and you shouldvote yes, for the moratorium.  You should oppose the tanks. It is really in your own interest.

  13. Oh Jim Carlton, do you really want to replay the nightmare you just had to endure with the overwhelming victory of YES ON ONE.  Go ahead, keep pushing this ridiculous “voter fraud” nonsense which has been thoroughly debunked even by your own people.  The two Charlies (aka Two Goofballs) investigated over 200 voters that the fool Webster insisted would show evidence of fraud.  Guess what, no fraud.  None.
Kindly be real.  How many people would risk serious criminal penalities let alone waste the time needed to run around and multi-vote just to have zero effect on an election.  It is just plain silly.  Give it up.  Mainers have rendered their judgement on this foolishness, and if you want to keep beating your very dead horse go ahead.  The overwhelming majority of Mainers are sick and tired of the Charlies’ nonsense, and this issue will only further sink your silly party into the electoral quicksand come next November.
