CAMDEN – Sheila King Billings, 73, died Feb. 3, 2012, at her home after a long illness. She was born Feb. 17, 1938, in Camden, to Raymond and Violet Billings.
Sheila graduated from Camden High School in 1956 and from Fischer Junior College, Boston, in 1958. She immediately began work as a secretary for the private banking firm of Brown Brothers Harriman & Co., Boston, where she had a successful career of 37 years until her retirement in 1995. Sheila enjoyed music and as a gifted pianist she was often asked to play at parties and social events. She also enjoyed traveling and shared many trips with her mother to England, sailing on the Queen Mary and flying on the first 747 jumbo jet. Summers at the family camp on Norton Pond boating, flying in her father’s floatplane, and entertaining lifelong friends and co-workers held special memories for Sheila.
She is survived by a cousin, Mary King of Portsmouth, England; a cousin, Glenda Ellis of Australia; godson, Stephen C. Laite of West Rockport; goddaughters, Jessica Hill, M.D., of San Diego and Vanessa Hawkins of Pendleton, Ore.; and her very special friend, Sally Laite of Lincolnville. Her father, Raymond Billings; and her mother, Violet Billings, predeceased Sheila.
A memorial service in her memory will be scheduled in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to PALS for the Living, P.O. Box 1853, Rockland, ME 04841.
