BANGOR, Maine — Bangor police Officer Mike Brennan was called early Saturday to Husson University to help deal with a party that campus security officials believed involved underage drinking, Sgt. Paul Edwards said Monday.
Brennan found three students at around 1:15 a.m. who appeared intoxicated and one was “giving the officer a hard time, swearing and such,” the sergeant said.
The disruptive student, Axel Lee, 20, of Bangor, was given a disorderly conduct warning.
After Brennan was able to determine all three students were intoxicated and underage, he told them he was going to charge them with illegal possession of alcohol by a minor through consumption.
At that point, “he heard security saying, ‘Don’t do it’ and he observed [Lee] smashing a wooden chair on the floor,” Edwards said.
Lee was charged with disorderly conduct and taken to Penobscot County Jail. He has since been released, the sergeant said.
Isaiah Flores, 19, of Bridgeport, Conn., Stephan T. Dance, 19, of New London, Conn., and Lee all were charged with illegal possession of alcohol by a minor through consumption. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

Brilliant.
Someone haz a mad!
Good party school,My son said he owes 30,ooo$ has no education but good parties
You must be a proud parent.
no education, and apparently never been to a good party. Husson parties resemble a backyard BBQ. Nothing more than a bunch of alcohol.
Their first class of pharmacists will graduate soon with Pharm D diplomas. Those kids will have their pick of jobs starting at about $140,000.00 Not everyone at Husson is sitting around drinking. Lot’s of Husson grads are getting high paying jobs in spite of some of the idiots that every university- including Husson has on board.
Or a bunch of drunks are going to be pharmacists……
Thanks, my daughter is a pharmacist.
This incident is all too common. The lack of any serious consequences allows these students to bust up property and run their mouths at local law enforcement It would be intetresting to see what happened to the last 50 Husson students that were caught illegally drinking on University property.Throw a few of these people out of school and most of this issue would be quickly illiminated. If they had a few beers and stayed quiet and safe nobody would care.
This activity really helps when the school is trying to raise money for new buildings- Wealthy benefactors love to see their millions treated in this way. Thanks guys-Mom and Dad would be proud!
LOOK! He’s making his mad face!
What you talkin’ ’bout?
Someone before this mug shot must have “axed” Axel if he was happy. He doesn’t look it.
Get that guy his 40 oz.
Husson..do they have any admissions requirements?
….
I suppose that busting a chair was a better choice than busting the cop…
Geez I could give BDN better news stories than this. Just to make a point though….this is WHY there’s so many “unskilled” laborers as they put it, in Maine. In around 5 yrs these guys will grow up and seek employment, much to their parents approval, and will be told to “hit the street” because of a criminal record over a college party…?? Back in my college days the Cops took the beer and if you acted up you got the drunk tank for the night.
Back in our day, that wasn’t considered a violation of constitutional rights. Back then a night in the drunk tank was probably preferrable to going home and facing the wrath of our parents. Nowadays many parents would be on the phone with a lawyer the next day to sue the city.
This is not a news flash. I went to school in the 70’s and we did the same thing. This has been going on since the dawn of time. They are acting exactly how they are suppose to act at that age. Remember when you were a teen of fourteen and your parents were so ignorant you could hardly stand to have them around but when you got to be twenty-one you were astonished by how much they had learned in seven years. They are learning, just not in a class room. It will benefit them in the long run.
Really??? Smashing a chair and getting arrested will benefit him in the future? I don’t think so. Red flag for significant anger issues and lack of respect for authority doesn’t make him an ideal employment applicant.
cant understand why they cant speak english… usally some sort of jibberish.axe them and they will tell you.
Really guys? Axe them? Get him a 40oz? What you talking ’bout? Racist much?
I live an in apartment complex that is 75% Husson College students. We have assigned parking spaces by apartment number. The students obviously don’t know how to read numbers because they park wherever the hell they want. If you point this out to them they become indignant or cry that you would ask to have your own parking space! Their parents must be proud.
I’ve never understood. A family memeber was a building manager for a long time that housed 90% UMaine students. I can’t get over the lack of respect and like you said, indignation, when confronted with their behavior. It’s as if getting ones own apartment is a hall pass for anarchic behavior. And I’ll say it again, it all comes down to parental teaching. Demand respect as a parent, and your children will show respect to others they come in contact with in life. Especially other adults.
Sounds more than a little racist, and you have 3 “likes” already. Shameful.
None of the accused are minors.
Please note also that the officer was able to determine that all three were “intoxicated.”
Intoxicated remains undefined, whether determined by clairvoyance or otherwise.
What, exactly, was their BAC?
Wow, College kids drinking and acting stupid…it can’t be true…it can’t be. Please, make it stop. Monumental issue. Stop the press…PLEASE!
new london and bridgeport and all they were doing is drinking wow no guns drugs what a suprise the cops must have missed something
If, the other two look like he does, I’d be afraid. NOT. Send him home to mommy and daddy. Expensive drunk, don’t you think?
I will never understand how you can tell a person your a adult responsible for your own life. BUT you can not drink or buy a handgun from a FFL. Here in Maine you have to be 18 to get a concealed carry permit so we trust you to be armed in public but you can not have a beer. I you not going to let them drink at 18 then they should not be responsible for the other things that come with being a adult..
Would you trust these guys with guns?
You have to be 21 in Maine for a CCW
No you don’t; the legal age is 18. http://www.mainelegislature.org/legis/statutes/25/title25sec2003.html
I was in combat at age 18. I knew how to use weapons proficiently.I believe the drinking age in Maine at that time was 18 as well. I believe it is unfair to ask our youth to serve our nation, and not allow them to have the privilege of all that adulthood has to offer. I have also graced the halls of academia. I did not party there. My military experience prepared me to be a better student. I realized I was at school to become educated, not inebriated. Others I witnessed did not have the same goals at school that I had. Their parents payed the bills or their education was given to them through some program. It meant little to them to be there. As I became an adult, I realized that when something is handed to you it means little. When you work for it, it becomes meaningful. I did receive the G.I. Bill, but I feel I earned it. Yes, it is good to blow off steam after a stressful week of school. Blowing off steam does not make it OK to destroy property and be verbally abusive. I believe the officers made the right call this time.
It’s because physically the brain doesn’t fully develop until you reach 25. That’s why car insurance is so high for people in that age group, they don’t always make the right decisions. Another reason might be military eligibility. If you had to be older that 18 and some Sgt. told you to charge into active fire, you might be inclined to want to discuss other options first.
Take it easy on the guy folks, coming from Husson he just might end up being Governor someday. He already seems to have the right disposition to fill the position.
And he already has the “I didn’t get my way, so I’m going to pout” face perfected.
These are the “good kids” who got out of Bridgeport to make something of themselves.
They just don’t get the message!
Axel needs a Paxil.
What’s with the racist comments here? Why not just speak of him as an individual, not as a race?
