BANGOR, Maine — Concert-goers will be getting some good vibrations on the Bangor Waterfront in June.

Bangor has secured one of the Beach Boys’ 50 U.S. dates during the iconic band’s coming 50th anniversary concert tour, according to Waterfront Concerts promoter Alex Gray.

For the first time in more than 20 years, all of the original surviving members — Brian Wilson, Mike Love and Al Jardine — of the Beach Boys will join longtime members David Marks, Bruce Johnston and Blondie Chaplin to perform live together on a worldwide tour featuring at least 100 dates and starting in New Orleans on April 27.

The Queen City will host the kings of summer beach music and 1960s and ’70s culture for an 8 p.m. show on Friday, June 22, at the Bangor Waterfront Pavilion, Gray said. Tickets will go on sale at noon Friday, Feb. 24.

Tickets will cost $91.75, $67.75 and $47.75 (not including applicable fees and charges) and are available locally at Mark’s Music in Brewer, at all Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.waterfrontconcerts.com, and by phone at 800-745-3000.

The Beach Boys, who received The Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award, have been rocking it in one form or another since 1961, and they seem to keep finding ways to shift into another gear every time people try to relegate them to pop culture irrelevancy.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band has four No. 1 singles — “I Get Around” (1964), “Help Me, Rhonda” (1965), “Good Vibrations” (1966) and “Kokomo” (1988) — among their 13 top 10 U.S. hits. The Beach Boys continue to hold the Billboard/Nielsen SoundScan’s record as the top-selling U.S. band for albums and singles, and they also have the most Billboard Top 40 chart hits — 36 — by an American band.

As part of their 50th anniversary tour, the Beach Boys are also releasing their 30th studio album — the first in 15 years. The album reportedly will feature a new recording of “Do it Again,” and several other singles already have been recorded.

Wilson is producing the still-untitled album, which is the first to involve all of the band’s surviving original members in decades. Love is the album’s executive producer.

Exclusive VIP ticket packages, meet-and-greet chances and merchandise are available at VIP Nation.

    1. They played at the Bangor Auditorium in 1965. I know this because I was there.  Of course Dennis and Carl Wilson were alive and part of it then. It was the best musical concert I have ever seen.

Obviously this is not all the same gang now, but I think Brian can still sing the high notes that surfing music was noted for.

  1. I can’t wait for this show.  If Brian Wilson hadn’t signed on, I would not have been interested because Mike Love annoys me.  Brian Wilson is a musical genius.  Thank you Waterfront Concerts.  You’ve made me one happy fan!

  2. Legendary. The reunion of the Beach Boys right here folks. One chance. Take it. This is a nice addition to the variety ahead.

  3. Seriously? $90+ to listen to Brian Wilson be unable to carry a tune or harmonize any longer? I think not…

  4. I honestly believe that $90 for a ticket to see this show is a pipe dream.   I paid $15 to see them in 1985, when they were still somewhat relevant and that felt like too much.  This one is not going to pan out.

    1. I saw them in 1971, Worcester,MA when I was in college…Ticket was around $7.50.( Box seats at Fenway were about the same price). They won’t have a problem selling out. Wonder who will be opening for them… “Went To The Dance … Thought I’d take a chance…”  Also – Thank You Mr. Gray.

  5. I wish I could go.  Those prices are a little steep. I could understand if it were at a venue that has decent seating where you didnt have to look over everyones head.  I might have to troll outside the fence just to hear them.  I love the old beach boys.  Still waiting for my little duece coupe though.

  6. A bunch of old guys singing Surfin Safari, in between Geritol commercials doesn’t do it for me.

  7. I love the Beachboys and as I read the article there are differing price selections to choose from.  And as a side note.  It is great that the BDN provides this therapeutic area for people to just blather on and not have to pay a therapist for their sessions they get it for free and get whateverrrr off their chest .    I love this column.

  8. Whoever made this decision obviously did not see the Grammys Sunday night.  They sounded awful and required a bailout from another band.  LOL

      1. It took me a second , but i got that ! HELP ME RHONDA < HELP< HELP ME RHONDA ! GOOD ONE ! We have some wicked sharp people on this web site !

  9. I paid 5 bucks last time I saw the Beach Boys and it was worth every nickel. I figure it’s still worth 5 bucks for this time around. 90 Something ???? Yeaaaa right !!

  10. This show is a celebration of their amazing catalog of music.  Brian, Mike, Al, David Marks and Bruce will be in in front on stage, but the music and voices are carried by a few key members of Brian Wilson’s touring band.  The backing band alone is worth the price of admission.  If you go to one show this year, go to this one.

  11. Some of you say they are bad so if they are that bad how come they still pack them in when they go to Mohegan  Casino   ?

  12. This show is a celebration of their amazing music.   Know that Brian, Mike, Al, Bruce and David are very well supported musically and vocally by many key members of Brian Wilson’s touring band.  If you see only one show this year, see this one.

  13. Why do people hate so much when a particular act they don’t care for comes to Bangor? Open your eyes people, it doesn’t matter who comes, Bangor is a hot spot destination for big acts! Support all these acts, whether its your taste of music or not. Just my .2

  14. If you heard them on the Grammys the other night, these guys still have it, and had the audience on their feet and singing along with them. This is a great addition to the lineup, especially for people that aren’t crazy about country music.

  15. Jimi Hendrix said it best. “You people do not understand, may you never hear surf music ever again”…The Beach Boys did not get that memo…

  16. Went to a performance a kathousand years ago at the Northern Maine Fairgrounds…………John Stamos was the drummer that late afternoon…..maybe they’ll bring him along!!!!!   It was great though for an outside concert in the summertime.  As with everything, it is what you make it.  Loved it.

  17. I went to a beach boy concert 15 years ago just outside the “flats” in Cleveland. The whole place was rockin! Best concert I have ever seen. You can bet that I won’t miss this one.
