BANGOR, Maine — A wanted Stetson woman who put $84 in merchandise into her purse and then attempted to leave Target on Wednesday afternoon without paying was caught and arrested, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Thursday.

Nicole Welch, 30, who was wanted on two outstanding warrants, was seen by store security putting jewelry and makeup into her purse, Edwards said.

“She went through the register to pay for a small item but not the items in the purse, obviously,” he said.

The items all were recovered. Welch was charged with theft and for the two warrants. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

  1. and I am sure she was arrested and released. What possible good is it to release these people so they can commit crimes all over again. There is not enough makeup in the world for that face.

    1. Yes they should have let her put on the makeup and jewelry for her mugshot, not to mention a suspended sentence!!!

  2. Winning!!?….she’s got the same look in her eyes as the heavy metal guy from Essex Street…..Crazy…

    1. Did you hear about the woman that was convicted for shoplifting? Her sentence was to wear a badge that reads “Convicted Shoplifter.” However, her lawyers hope to plea bargain down to a bumper sticker reading “I’d Rather Be Stealing!”

    1. With all of the staffing cuts, I think the reporters are overworked and the copy desk has been gutted. Not only should the warrants have been explained, but one rule taught (but seldom followed) is that people are never arrested for doing anything; they are arrested on suspicion of doing something. It’s up to the court to decide guilt, not the police, reporter, or editors.

      1.  I told her to pick out some nice jewelry and cosmetics for herself. I
must have forgot to include the gift certificate with the card.

  3. That women got beat with not just the ugly stick, but the whole damn tree!  Wooof!  Jesus, 30, really?  I guess my grandmother can look 30 if that is what is passing as 30 these days!
