ORRINGTON – Lester F. “Buck” Carlisle Jr., 86, passed away peacefully Feb. 23, 2012, surrounded by his loving family at home. He was born April 28, 1925, in Brewer, the son of Lester F. and Alice (Smith) Carlisle.
He grew up in Brewer and Ellsworth, where he graduated from Ellsworth High School, class of 1942. He earned the highest Boy Scout award, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. After he graduated from high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of electricians mate second class. After serving his country he attended classes and graduated from the University of Maine. He began a 39-year career with New England Telephone Co., retiring in 1985. After retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Madelyn (White) Carlisle of Orrington; one son, Brian E. Carlisle and his wife, Cindy, of Newburgh; one daughter, Nancy and her husband, Paul F. Dudley II, of Lawrenceville, Ga.; three very special grandsons, Broc Carlisle of Newburgh and his fianc‚e, Kayla Smith, of Winterport, Brandon Dudley of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Timothy Carlisle of Newburgh; one very special granddaughter, Jillian Carlisle of Newburgh and her fianc‚, Zachary Prendergast, of Brewer; as well as many special friends, neighbors and relatives. The family expresses sincere thanks to the staff of Beacon Hospice Inc., with special thanks to Pam MacArthur, Krissann Spear Key and Jean Lane for their compassion and caring. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Ruth Dunbar, in 2006.
At his request, services will be private, with military honors at a later date.
