HOLDEN – Michael J. Haggert, 59, passed away Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at a Cambridge, Mass., hospital. Michael was born June 1, 1952, in Concord, N.H., to Lloyd Robert Haggert and Lillian Mae (Smith) Haggert.
Michael grew up in New Hampshire, graduating from Pinkerton Academy, Derry, N.H. He served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in California. He served 18 years in the U.S. Navy, much of that aboard nuclear powered submarines in Groton, Conn., on the SSN-663 USS Hammerhead and the SSN-674 USS Trepang in the Mediterranean, obtaining rank of E-6. Michael was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities in several places throughout his career. He was an avid reader, loved books and electronics, and one of his latest pursuits was solar energy. At the time of his death, he was doing what he loved best, serving the Lord at Mormon Temple, Boston.
Michael is survived by three brothers, Brian of Rhode Island, Allen of Maine and Jonathan of Texas; one sister, Dawna of New Hampshire; a son, Jared of Iowa; a daughter, Ruth Lilly of North Carolina; a granddaughter, Adriana; nieces and nephews. All who knew him loved him and will miss his special spirit.
A military honor service will be held noon March 2 at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. A memorial will also be held 6 p.m. March 3 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 639 Grandview Ave., Bangor. Arrangements by Rogers Funeral Home, Cambridge, Mass.
