CLARKS GROVE, Minn. – Vaughn True Lovley, 90, retired farmer, salesman, machinist and World War II Army Air Corps veteran, passed away Feb. 14, 2012. Born July 12, 1921, in Mapleton, he was the son of Claude and Velma Lovley.
He is survived by sister, Maxine (Vaughn) Smith of Presque Isle; children, MaryAnne Lovley of Jordan, Minn., Forrest and Linda Lovley of Jordan, Minn., Kate and Jim Peterson of Faribault, Minn., and Susan Lovley and husband, Kevin Haas, of Minnetonka, Minn.; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, many nieces and nephews; and his two kitty companions, Connie and Bella. He was predeceased by his wife, Betty; brother, Donald Lovley; sister, Glenice McCormick; and his parents.
Vaughn lived life to the fullest while trapping, fishing and hunting in Maine, Alaska, Colorado, Montana, Wyoming and Minnesota. He was a nationally recognized competition rifle marksman and was proud of the many friendships and achievements resulting from this. Vaughn was also an avid hiker, camper, private pilot and gardener. He appreciated his kind and helpful neighbors in Clarks Grove, Minn., and always looked forward to seeing his friends at the Congregational church in Hollandale, Minn., each Sunday. He successfully lived his life on his own terms and was rarely known to back down from a challenge. He always had just one more story to tell of his life’s adventures.
At Vaughn’s request, there will be no formal memorial service. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
