LINCOLN, Maine — The summoning of a burglary suspect has left police with a dilemma — what to do with the items the suspect turned over to police that police believe were taken in other burglaries, Police Chief William Lawrence said Friday.
James Dellachiaie, 33, of Lincoln was issued a summons for burglary of a motor vehicle on Thursday.
Reserve Officer Richard York was working at about 5:30 a.m. Thursday when he received a call of someone breaking into a pickup truck at 168 Main St. York responded and talked to the owner of the vehicle who gave him a description of the burglar, Lawrence said.
York was on Fleming Street shortly thereafter when he saw a man who matched the truck owner’s description that York knew as Dellachiaie. The suspect eventually gave York four compact discs taken from the pickup truck plus several small flashlights, stolen vise grips, a wrench set and a heart pendant — all items police believe probably were quickly grabbed from other vehicles in the area, Lawrence said.
Police have no reports of house or vehicle burglaries they can match to the items. Lawrence asked anyone who might have experienced a vehicle or other form of burglary recently in Lincoln to call police at 794-8455.

Big Dilemma-what to do with stolen items? Would they not cover this at the academy?
They dont exactly know to whom all the stolen items belong.
The solution is pretty simple. Put out word that they are in possession of stolen items. If you believe the police may have something that was stolen of yours come and describe the item and get it back. If left unclaimed over a period of time then donate the unclaimed goods.
Perhaps it was the manner in which the story was written-It suggested that there was no standard procedure for a situation that must occur quite often.
Mahoney got them all to cut class that day when they were searching for Hightower.
I reported some stolen items years ago. Never heard anymore from the cops. My sister had a bicycle stolen years ago. She found out where it was when Bangor PD had their annual bike auction. It’s money in the cop’s pocket.
If the heart necklace was inscribed on the back with “I am dumb” . I think the PD has got to give it back…….
I can see someone concerned about the pendant, but 4 discs and a few flashlights ? How many man hours are they worth ?
Burglary you get a summons. Give a prostitute a ride, get arrested and your picture in the paper. Sometin wrong with da picture, man.
What is this world coming to when a burglar will break in for a handful of trinkets and toys..
Druggie. Watch and see. It may not sound like much, but druggies need to steal thousands of dollars worth of stuff in order to realize hundreds in cash for their habit. Think of thousands of druggies out stealing each and every day. They’ll take ANYthing.
