PORTLAND, Maine — The CEO of L.L. Bean has lost his court appeal claiming the deed to his waterfront property in Cumberland inaccurately specified the location of an easement across his land.

In a unanimous ruling Tuesday, the Maine Supreme Judicial Court upheld a lower court decision dismissing Christopher McCormick’s lawsuit against the property’s previous owner.

McCormick filed a complaint in 2010 against Lawrence Crane, claiming the easement as traveled was different from a depiction in an easement plan referenced in the deed. McCormick bought the property in 2001.

McCormick in November lost another legal battle with his neighbors over a wall and fence he built along the easement. In that case, the Supreme Court sided with the neighbors and ordered McCormick to take down the wall and fence within 30 days.

    1. Which one of these two are you calling a rich such & such? The guy who won or the guy who lost? Do you know either of them. I suspect you are just prejudiced against people who have more than you do. Envy much?

  1. This frivolous lawsuit filed by a wealthy Republican was dismissed based on the complaint alone.  There was no need for any trial or any affidavits to resolve this claim.  You can’t be sued for breach of warranty for the existence of an easement when the easement is disclosed in the deed you bargained for.   Mr. McCormick, did you read your deed?

    1. The rich in this country can only do what they want against the poor they have a harder time doing it against people that have money.

    1. Like I said :
Leon should have taken that bad boy to the woodshed long ago ! It’s his (LL’s) pantleg that gets pissed on every time his CEO gets egoish.

  2. He’s getting an attitude bigger than his boots.  Again, anger management.  Money won’t buy anything but an expensive lawyer/liar.  Time to find a new one.  LL Bean would be embarrassed.  Did things seemingly like a gentleman.

  3. he went about it the wrong way.A membership in a club probably would have helped considerably, or he could have feathered the republican nest and gotten what he wanted.birds of a feather flock together

  4. The real story here is the legal system. I don’t have a problem with Mr. McCormick pursuing this property issue all the way to the top-L. L. Bean connection or not. Alot of us have had these disputes, we just don’t have the thousands of dollars  required to litigate a case like  this. Equal justice- I don’t think so.

  5.  Minor lawsuits but shows this man’s character and maybe not someone who should be leading LL Bean if tarnishing reputation?? Not someone I would want to know or live next too.

  6. Believe it’s time for a change.
Too much negative publicity for a Maine icon like LLB.
For me, it is often difficult to find anything they sell that’s worth the price.
    Sad realization.

  7. Does the I can do what ever I want attitude really fit LL Bean?  It must now.  Call Cabella’s or Land’s End.

  8. He, to me, looks like someone who I wouldn’t believe if he told me the sun rose in the east. Just looks sly and sleazy.
