BANGOR, Maine — The first baby born at Eastern Maine Medical Center on Wednesday morning just happens to share a birthday and hometown with a Glenburn resident who recently celebrated his 20th birthday at age 80.
Casey Danforth, 31, of Glenburn gave birth to 6-pound, 12-ounce Alexander Ryan Robinson at 5:31 a.m. on Leap Day, Wednesday, Feb. 29.
“[The doctors] said he was extremely healthy and happy,” Danforth said Wednesday afternoon from the hospital.
Alexander’s father is Michael Robinson Jr. His grandparents are Gale Tinker of Bangor, Reginald Danforth of Glenburn and Kathy Schumaker of Holden.
Casey Danforth is a district circulation manager at the Bangor Daily News.
On Sunday, Feb. 26, 80-year-old Glenburn resident Sumner Edward Pinkham Jr. celebrated his 20th birthday a few days early with a group of family and friends at a surprise party in the Glenburn town office. Pinkham was born Feb. 29, 1932.
Danforth said Alexander, who is her first child, held on hard to be born on leap year day.
“They induced me at 7 a.m. [Tuesday] morning,” she said.
Alexander’s mother said her boy won’t have to wait four years for his birthday party and gifts.
“We looked it up, and technically, you’re supposed to celebrate [the birthday] on March 1,” Danforth said.

I don’t understand why the 80 year old had his birthday surprise party a few days early. It was only his ’20th’ birthday and the friends and family thought it was a good idea to have it 3 days before his special day? A day that is so special remember, this is the 2nd article about in the BDN.
Just seems to me a leap year person would really cherish those actual birthdays that come around. Not sure why anyone would want to make the person think, lets just do this now, and get it over with.
