BANGOR, Maine — A Sangerville man charged in federal court with possession of child pornography is scheduled to be released Thursday on $10,000 unsecured bail.
John McKenzie, 45, was granted bail Wednesday by U.S. Magistrate Judge Margaret Kravchuk with the condition that he wear an ankle bracelet.
Bail conditions include electronic monitoring, no contact with children under the age of 18, no use of a computer or the Internet and not traveling outside the state of Maine.
McKenzie’s release from the Somerset County Jail was delayed to give U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services time to obtain the equipment needed for electronic monitoring, Kravchuk said during Wednesday’s hearing.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office, which previously asked that McKenzie be held without bail, agreed Wednesday to the conditions the judge imposed.
McKenzie was arrested Friday for allegedly exchanging images of child pornography in September 2010 with an FBI agent in Missouri who was posing as a man interested in sharing images.
In December 2010, Maine law enforcement officers seized McKenzie’s computer and found child pornography on it that he had sent to the FBI agent in Missouri, according to court documents.
The Sangerville man allegedly used three images of girls he knew and morphed them with pictures of naked men to make them appear sexual in nature. The girls were 10, 12 and under the age of 18 when the pictures used were taken, according to court documents.
The younger two girls, who still live in Maine, were interviewed and denied any abuse by McKenzie, an FBI affidavit stated.
If convicted, McKenzie faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
I’m not defending anyone but isn’t the FBI agent just as bad as a child pornographer. He does sit at his desk exchanging child porn all day. Somehow this seems kind of hypocritical. Just saying.
So….no one should do it and these people should just run wild and free? Yeah, that makes sense.
I’m sorry but you are reading way to much into my comment. Child porn is wrong, we can all agree with that. I’m just asking if a persons job is doing exactly what the perpetrator is doing . Is that not somehow wrong as well.
