NORRIDGEWOCK, Maine — A former Norridgewock town worker fired for allegedly secretly recording town hall conversations has been elected to the Board of Selectmen.

Charlotte Curtis, fired as office clerk in January by town manager Michelle Flewelling, will now serve on the panel that oversees Flewelling.

Curtis, 66, won the election on Monday.

She told the Morning Sentinel that she just wants to work to make the town better.

Although Curtis was fired from her 40-hour-per-week job, she retained the elected positions of town clerk and treasurer. It is unclear if Curtis can serve on the select board if she has unfinished business as treasurer.

Curtis has filed a complaint over her firing claiming it was age discrimination.

  1. Obviously, the residents of Norridgewock don’t approve of the job the town manager is doing.

  2. This kind of goes on the order of, “Use care as you step on someone’s toes today, as they may be in the BOOTS you have to lick tomorrow.”

  3. Scoundrel time on the banks of the Kennebec. But which one is the scoundrel? Only the Norridgegossips know for sure.

    1. I think you find it is Charlotte Curtis this woman videotaped people coming in and out of the town office  without them knowing it for nearly 2 years and got away with it until she got caught by Flewelling.  She also didn’t do her job collecting unpaid sewer bills, and not putting liens and or forclosing on those who didn’t pay their bills.  Her having a bleeding heart for those who refuse to pay while putting the town at huge financial risk from not having that money.  She wanted to give another form of “Welfare” to those because she felt sorry for them.  Well those in Norridgewock who paid their bills and did it right should be outraged.  Now possibly on the hook and getting a huge tax increase  for the tens of thousands of dollars at least they now have to make up for the Welfare  Mrs. Curtis gave for feeling sorry for those folks.  Well according to the Sentinel article I don’t think Ms. Flewelling is going anywhere. Why  because the town and the other selectmen  are looking at legal action against Mrs. Curtis and residents are looking at their options as well .  Because they don’t feel she is qualified to hold this office due to her unethical and illegal activity.

Why was she recording though?  There must have been a reason.  Bet we’ll see another story soon.

    1. Tzuriel 1 month ago in reply to Guest Old fashion device. Tape recorder, lol! She needed an ink pen digital recorder. Maybe not the most technical person in the office, but she was good at the job she was designed to do. Detective work isn’t her calling. Knowing Norridgewock as I do, they haven’t seen the last of her, and she will soon be an elected official.2nd place?

    1. I mostly agree, but I think it’s just awkward for one person, the one who did the firing, your thoughts?

      1. I agree with you. The ‘A’ in ‘Awkward’ is at font size: HUUUUUUGE!!! (I’m pretty sure that’s a real font size). Terribly awkward. Charlotte Curtis most definitely walks away from those encounters with more grace. Unless……. Charlotte was only recording Flew on some dumb stuff. I’d be interested to find out why she was recording her.

    1. Why this woman is a crook and was also unethical.  This woman videotaped people coming into that office , and those working in that office for close to 2 years without their knowledge until Flewelling and others caught her doing it.  She also didn’t do her job as town clerk and town treasurer by giving freebies to those who refused paying their sewer bills because she felt sorry for them.  She did not do her job by state law by not putting liens on their homes and not following forclosurer laws here in Maine by not forclosing  on their homes after the time period ran out.  Now according to the article in the sentinel Curtis wants to put the issue onto someone else so they get into trouble for it.  No she should do the right thing and step down . While the Town of Norridgewock should go to the District Attorney or the AG and have them prosecute her and sue her for the money lost and other criminal behavior she committed. Charlotte Curtis not the Town Manager is the one who is at fault here.
The Town of Norridgewock, Selectmen and Town Manager it took them awhile but they finally caught on to what she was doing.

  5. Let’s hope summer comes soon s we can get a break form all thesesmall town council soap operas.  Jeez Louise!

    1. If you read the sentinel article she (Flewelling) is likely going nowhere.  As I stated above it will likely be Mrs. Curtis because they are looking at legal action against her and residents are looking at their options of getting her out.   I think MMA and the AG will be getting a call from the Norridgewock folks very soon with an investigation of her behaviors.

  6. The reason that we see more and more immature antics from local government is simple: The adults that used to take part in their local affairs want nothing to do with it anymore. We’re left with village idiots to run our affairs. The lack of manners and any form of civility has driven away educated, reasonable people. We see it in Bangor, Hampden and points in  between.

    1. Not just Bangor and Hampden, but all over the state.
Add to what you said, the frustration in dealing with a state bureaucracy gone amuck and it’s not difficult to see why no one wants to serve to help make their community better.

    2. Too bad all educated municipal workers couldn’t riot against the village idiots…or at least go on strike.  Then maybe they would realize that it takes a little more to keep a town running than just sitting at a desk locked away in an office.

    3. One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics

  7. Don’t know why this qualifies as newsworthy. This happens a lot. The town mamager will end up being a better manager due to this. All her T’s crossed and small J’s dotted, know that.

  8. My heart goes out to Ms. Flewelling.  I am sure she is already updating her resume…best of luck whether you stay or decide to leave.

  9. Sounds like Ms. Curtis was in the wrong for taping people without their permission and/or hiding her activities. Invasion of privacy? If people were involved in public discussion, then would Ms. Curtis qualify as a  journalist?  Given the circumstances, I feel sorry for her former boss, Ms. Flewelling.
