ELLSWORTH, Maine — Route 1A in Ellsworth was closed for a short time late Thursday morning when a logging truck became stuck while pulling out into the roadway.
The loaded logging truck was leaving a harvesting site on Route 1A near the Moto-Car antique auto business when the truck’s rear wheels apparently got stuck in the soft soils on the side of the road, said Lt. Harold Page of the Ellsworth Police Department.
That stretch of road was closed to traffic for about a half-hour while crews worked to clear the truck. They were forced to remove part of the load and use another piece of heavy equipment to free the wheels, Page said.
The highway reopened around noon but not before the closure caused a significant backup on the road connecting Ellsworth and Bangor.
Slightly earlier on Thursday, traffic on Route 1 through Ellsworth’s commercial district was slowed by a two-vehicle accident that caused minor injuries. A car driven by a Massachusetts couple was trying to cross High Street from the Mobil station but apparently the driver did not see a car traveling in the outer lane because of an ambulance that was pulling into the parking lot from the inner lane.
The four occupants — two in each car — reportedly suffered minor injuries in the 11 a.m. crash.

Ahh the joys of trucking when you dont turn wide enough for your tandems. If you dont get any national miles you too will drive like a 4 wheeler and drop those pesky tandems into the ditch. Wonder if this has shown up on youtube yet.
