PRESQUE ISLE and FORT FAIRFIELD – Marie E. Walker, 80, passed away Thursday morning, March 8, 2012, at a Presque Isle health care facility, after an extended illness. She was born May 29, 1931, in Fort Fairfield, daughter of Clarence and Rose (Trask) Johnston.
She was a graduate of Fort Fairfield High School, class of 1949. Marie had been a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Fort Fairfield, for many years and had been employed by several area businesses including Maine Mutual Insurance, Presque Isle, and Interstate Foods of Fort Fairfield. Marie was a past member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187 Ladies Auxiliary, Fort Fairfield, and a member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Ray Goding Unit No. 88, Presque Isle. She was married to Lyle C. Whittaker, July 18, 1950; he passed away April 1, 1990. She later married Merle S. Walker, Dec. 1, 1990; he passed away Feb. 5, 2001. Marie resided in California for a time and had lived in Presque Isle for the past several years.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Mrs. Walker was predeceased by one brother, Wilfred Johnston. She is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Carl McGlauflin of Presque Isle; one brother, Ronald D. Johnston of California; several nieces and nephews including Carlene Kilby and her husband, Gary, of Old Orchard Beach, Debbie Boone and her husband, Ronald, of Carlingford, New Brunswick, and Andrew Johnston of Dover-Foxcroft.
Friends may call 1-2 p.m. Sunday, March 11, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where the funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Robert Smith officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the service at VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield.
