BANGOR, Maine — A Canadian man is facing a domestic assault charge after police say he pushed his wife during an argument at a hotel bar early Friday.

Don Ross McFetridge, 61, of St. John, New Brunswick, was intoxicated at the bar at Howard Johnson’s on Odlin Road just after midnight Friday, according to Bangor police Sgt. Garry Higgins, and got into an altercation with the woman.

“There apparently had been some drinking going on,” Higgins said.

Howard Johnson’s staff members contacted Bangor police, and Officer Chris Blanchard responded and arrested McFetridge.

McFetridge was taken to Penobscot County Jail and charged with domestic assault, a Class D misdemeanor. He remained there Friday afternoon and faces up to a year behind bars if convicted.

  1. A year in jail for shoving someone is insane.   Even arresting someone for just pushing someone is nuts.  Domestic violence laws are severely insane in this country.

      1. Not sure why it is OK to push another human, regardless of gender.  You don’t get out much if you think men just have it coming while women should be protected.  I’ve met many more women in my day who should be hit upside the head with a cement block than men.

Not to mention, look around.  Half the women in this state could be playing Nose Guard for the Patriots.

  2. Sgt Higgins should be promoted to detective.  Intoxicated in a bar after midnight…………“There apparently had been some drinking going on,” Higgins said.  Brilliant work!

  3. It was his wife. And there is a history of such incidents.  So all of you arm chair investigators can take a brake from complaining about the Sgt. and others involved.  His 16 year old daughter was at HoJo’s with them and the wife was terrified that he was going to continue to assault her in front of her or worse.  So, prognosis is this a bad idea to charge this guy with a crime?

  4. He pushes his wife, is still in jail and faces a year in jail?? My, now ex-husband, choked me, (I had the marks to prove it) was never arrested and ended up with a $250 fine. There have been far worse charges involving domestic violence, in which the perpertrator gets bailed out and stalks their victims…..some ending in death. Something is terribly out of whack with domestic violence laws. Even tho I’m not an advocate of the governor, I’m glad he will be working on changing some of these laws.
