WATERVILLE, Maine — A Waterville man who tried to leave a local supermarket with three bottles of alcohol was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with theft, according to police.

Daniel Leary, 20, attempted to flee the Hannaford supermarket on upper Main Street with the bottles of alcohol concealed in his clothing just after 9 a.m. Wednesday, according to Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey.

Store security intercepted Leary and called police. Leary was arrested and charged with theft, and police issued him a summons for possession of alcohol by a minor.

He was taken to the Kennebec County Jail and released on $500 unsecured bail.
