OCALA, Fla. – Our beloved mother, Frances M. “Frankie” Gilmore, 71, died March 13, 2012, at Ocala Health and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. She was born Nov. 23, 1940, in Bellshill, Scotland, the daughter of John and Ursula (Rackelis) Miller.
She came to the U.S. in 1959 and worked as a nanny in New York. In 1963 she married George S. “Bud” Gilmore, with whom she had three children. Together they ran the family business, Smokey’s Greater Shows for many years. Frankie later worked at Bangor Federal Credit Union. Frankie was known for her excellent cooking and terrific sense of humor. She was a loving and supportive mother, and will be remembered for her appreciation of music and as a constant threat to spontaneously break into song.
Frankie was predeceased by her parents; and her infant son, John Michael. She is survived by her children, Diane Peterson and her husband, Dean, of Ocala, Fla., and Andrew Gilmore and his wife, Susan, of Hampden; four siblings, Grace and husband, George Joyce, John Miller, Joseph and wife, Catherine Miller, and Lawrence Miller, all of Scotland; and four grandchildren, Drew Gilmore, Megan Peterson, Jackson Gilmore and Josie Gilmore.
A private service will be held. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
