BAR HARBOR and BREWER – Myrtle A. MacLeod, 77, died March 14, 2012, at Sonogee Rehabilitation and Living Center, Bar Harbor. She was born May 4, 1934, in Portland, the daughter of Harry S. and Helen (Nearhood) MacLeod.
Myrtle grew up in Brewer. For much of her adult life she lived and worked in the Bar Harbor area. Myrtle had many caring and supportive friends at Bar Harbor Congregational Church, as well as in the Bar Harbor community, especially Connie Wagner and Debbie and Scott Hammond. She spent the last four years of her life at Sonogee, where she received excellent care from all who attended her, which is deeply appreciated by her family. Myrtle enjoyed her friends and family, her trips to Florida and attending family gatherings and special events. She also enjoyed her activities with the Special Olympics, participating in Bar Harbor parades and in the Christmas pageants at her church. She took many happy trips to the Pilgrim Lodge with her friends. Myrtle will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by brothers, Robert MacLeod and his wife, Jane, of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Donald MacLeod and his wife, Sharon, of Brewer; sisters, Patricia Burkard and her husband, Jim, of Arlington, Texas, and Peggy Boucher of Cocoa, Fla.; 27 nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her mother and father; brothers, Paul MacLeod and William MacLeod; and sisters, Mary Joyce and June Brandt.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 22, at Bar Harbor Congregational Church with the Rev. Dr. Sandra Reed officiating.
