MARBLEHEAD, Mass. – Lynne Tomas Rand, 80, husband of Janice (Tompkins) (Flanigan) Rand of Marblehead, Mass., died peacefully March 15, 2012. Born March 10, 1932, in Bangor, he was the son of the late Lynne Thomas Rand and Mildred (Sturgeon) Rand.
An avid pilot, skier and traveler, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was very proud of his success in business and was named to the hall of fame at New England Life Insurance Co. for top sales. He subsequently opened his own insurance company, Rand Associates. Tom cherished his family and friends. He was generous kind and gentle. He will remain in our hearts forever.
He is survived by his daughters, Susan Rand of Ferrisburg, Vt., and Katherine Rand of Newbury, Mass.; and a son, Michael Rand of Portsmouth, N.H., and his former wife, Dorothy (Edwards) Rand, of Newburyport. He was predeceased by his second wife, Virginia Jewell.
His memorial service will be celebrated 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, at St. Andrews Church, 135 Lafayette St., Route 114, Marblehead, Mass.
