DOVER-FOXCROFT – William Alvin Goodman, 54, husband of Karen (Openshaw) Goodman, died March 18, 2012, at a Bangor hospital after a courageous year and a half battle with cancer. He was born Dec. 1, 1957, in Madison, Wis., the son of Alvin and Barbara (Zeimann) Goodman Jr.

Bill served with the U.S. Air Force for 14 years and completed his 20 years of military service with the Army National Guard. His career in law enforcement, included employment with Davis Police Department in California, Brownville Police Department, Milo Police Department, Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department and Mountain View Youth Development Center, Charleston. He was most recently employed as a judicial marshal. He was co-owner of Mid-Maine Tae Kwon Do, Dover-Foxcroft. Bill’s passion was riding his motorcycle. He was Piscataquis County director of United Bikers of Maine, and a member of American Legion Riders Post No. 73, Corinna. He attended St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Dover-Foxcroft, and was a member of Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of Chadbourne-Merrill American Legion Post. No. 29, Dover-Foxcroft.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Karen; his parents; two sons, Kenneth Goodman and Benjamin Goodman; four brothers, Robert Goodman, Daniel and wife, Shelley, Goodman, James and wife, Jackie Goodman, and John and wife, Julia Goodman; a sister, Julie Goodman; his father-in-law, George Openshaw; two brothers-in-law, Brian Openshaw and Jeffrey and wife, Diane Openshaw; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends are invited to call 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, at Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, with military honors held 7 p.m. A memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 22, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Dover-Foxcroft, with Father Kent Ouellette, celebrant. Burial will be later in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery, Cherryfield.
