EAST MILLINOCKET – Robert S. “Bear” Boutaugh, 59, went to join his son, Chris, in heaven after a nice afternoon with his family on his 59th birthday, March 20, 2012. He was born March 20, 1953, in Millinocket, son of Winston A. and Reta M. (Powers) Boutaugh.

Bear attended school in Millinocket and was a class of 1972 graduate of Stearns High School, where he lettered in cross-country skiing. After high school Bear joined the U.S. Army and was a member of “The Big Red 1” Infantry Unit.

Bear was honorably discharged in 1974, when he returned to Millinocket and met the love of his life, Carla Boss. They were married in 1980 and have been together for 38 years. Bear worked as a woodcutter, drove the school bus, was a truck driver for the Bangor Daily News and was extremely proud of earning the title master Maine guide. He was an avid outdoorsman, and greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, going for rides in the woods and riding on his motorcycle.

Bear is survived by his wife, Carla of East Millinocket; daughter, “daddy’s little girl,” Brooks Boutaugh of East Millinocket; two special brothers, David Boutaugh and his wife, Louise, of Ellsworth, and Winston Boutaugh and his wife, Nancy, of Maryland; mother-in-law, Carolyn Craig of East Millinocket; many special nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his son, Bear was predeceased by his parents; and grandparents, George and Mary Boutaugh, and James and Harriet Powers.

Graveside services with military honors will be held later in the springtime at Millinocket Cemetery.
