WOBURN, Mass. — A Maine man has pleaded guilty to being drunk when he struck and killed a Massachusetts state highway engineer in 2010.
Jeremy Gardner of Bridgton, Maine is scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty Monday in Middlesex Superior Court to charges including vehicular homicide, driving under the influence of liquor and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
Authorities say the 31-year-old Gardner was drunk when his pickup truck hit 57-year-old Gregory Vilidnitsky on Sept. 14, 2010, while he worked on a project on Route 9 in Framingham.
Gardner kept driving after striking Vilidnitsky and tried to flee after he crashed the pickup truck into an oil tanker.
The MetroWest Daily News reported that Gardner’s lawyer says his client wanted to take responsibility.
Too bad that people are such bad drivers in our state. I read an article in 2010 by insurance com that stated that statistics show that Bangor Maine is on their top 10 list for the Most Dangerous Cities to Drive in the USA.
