AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine State Senate has given final approval and sent to the governor a bill to shift oversight of the Maine State Housing Authority.

Senate Majority Leader Jon Courtney’s bill gives the authority’s board of commissioners oversight authority and the power to review, compensate, or remove the agency’s director. Present law gives the director broader powers and duties.

The bill also establishes staggered terms for the commissioners.

Passage came a week after the current director, Dale McCormick, submitted her resignation after coming under fire from some commissioners.

The bill is expected to be signed into law by Gov. Paul LePage.

The quasi-independent housing authority issues bonds to finance single-family and multiple-family housing for low- and moderate-income families.

  1. Once the Governor signs it, the Maine Heritage Policy Center-led  witch hunt will be complete.

The bill’s sponsor, Senator Jon Courtney (R-Sanford), can now get his pet project done – with a private contractor -at the old Sanford Mill site. Courtney has a real-estate management company that will greatly benefit from the Sanford mill project. No conflict-of-interest ethics charges filed by any of his peers.

    1.  This is the second hack position that this unqualified hack has had living off of back the taxpayers of Maine.  No wonder Maine taxes are so high.  With ex Dem legisvermin like McCormick ,Violette and how many more yet to be discovered wasting our tax moneywith little to show for it it’s no wonder we can’t maintain our infrastructure.

  2. They should do this to all Boards in Maine, Next make the PUC accountable. Lurc is in the pipe line.. How can anyone argue against holding Boards and commissions acountable… It makes no sense that they can do ANTHING they want without being held accountable for their actions…
