STONINGTON – Norma Ailene McGuffie, 87, a lifetime resident of Hancock County, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2012, in Deer Isle. Norma was born July 9, 1924, in Deer Isle, to Calvin A. and Effie M. (Sellers) Eaton.
She grew up in Stonington and after graduating from Stonington High School, married Donald E. McGuffie. Norma had several careers in her lifetime including work in the cafeteria for Stonington schools, her tenure with Goose Cove Lodge, and her retirement from Pilgrim Inn as head of housekeeping. As a native of Stonington, Norma enjoyed her time walking on the beach and looked forward to meeting new and old friends. She especially looked forward to and enjoyed spending time with her family.
Norma is survived by her daughter, Donna Jackson and her husband, Milford “Jack,” of Ellsworth; daughter, Jean Read and her husband, William “Bill” Jr., of Bangor; brother, Ralph Eaton of Deer Isle; a special grandson, Richard Goodwin of Stonington; three granddaughters, Jennifer Johnson of North Pole, Alaska, Mollie Randall of Blue Hill and Ana Gutierrez of Fort Myers, Fla.; three great-granddaughters, Samantha Eaton, Allison Hudson and Brianna Smith; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Donald E. McGuffie, in 2005; brother, Harold Eaton; twin sister, Natalie Bernard; and sister, Celia Davis.
Visiting hours are scheduled 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at the Stonington chapel of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Homes, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 30. Private interment will be held at Mount Rest Cemetery, Stonington.
