BANGOR, Maine — Brewer police arrested a Bangor man Friday after he tried to return a mixer he allegedly shoplifted in an attempt to score store credit.
The mixer, a Kitchenaid, was valued at $200, Brewer police Cpl. Steve Boyd said Monday, citing an arrest report.
The theft by deception charge filed against William Doyle, 20, was elevated to aggravated because of Doyle’s criminal history, Boyd said.
Walmart loss prevention staff said they saw Doyle take the mixer out of its box while he was at the store. They say they then saw him take it to the customer service desk, where he tried to return it.
In February, Doyle was convicted of two counts of theft by unauthorized taking or transfer and unlawful possession of synthetic hallucinogens.
The charges stem from his arrest in December at Regency Trailer Park in Old Town.
Doyle, then 19, and another Bangor man were arrested after a concerned trailer park resident reported that one of them appeared to be intoxicated and was acting suspiciously.
Police later said both men appeared to under the influence of the synthetic hallucinogen known as bath salts.
In addition to being charged with possession of bath salts and drug paraphernalia, Doyle was charged with violations of conditions of release and failure to give a correct name and date of birth.
In addition, Doyle was indicted by a Penobscot County grand jury in December of last year on three counts of theft and in March for assault on a police officer and assault.
In December, he was given two sentences of 48 hours in jail for violating a condition of release and operating a vehicle without a license.

So now he gets a free mixer (a social) put on by the Penobscot County Jail.
Some serious thinking went into that caper.
Recipe for Disaster:
Take one repeat offender; Add serious drug dependency; Mix we…oops wait. You have to OWN the mixer first!
I have mixed emotions about these comments…
Now he is in need of legal-aid
The kitchen-aid didn’t work for him.
GEEEES…where have all the bath salt stories been anyway? Sounds like one mixed up person, glad it wasn’t a blender
No picture makes me sad! We have gone from bath salt stories to Wal mart theft stories…high class criminals in the bangor area, that are just repeat offenders!
This summer when you advertise a yard sale-hope and pray these types are not the “early birds.”

Déjà vu all over again!
Do you suppose that after a while, all the charges just blend together?
Maybe…but who gives a frappe’.
I seriously hope it’s drugs that makes this guy so stupid.
As the adage goes, “He needs to get a new profession cause he sucks at this one”.
This guy was an ingredient short of pulling off a good crime recipe.
I guess he was using it to mix his bath salts.
