Ron Paul can save us
Anyone who has read James Perloff’s superb book “The Shadows of Power” knows that the well-entrenched Council on Foreign Relations seeks to subvert the United States into a socialist and tyrannical world government. Since most presidential candidates (both winners and losers) are either members of this elite group or have advisers who are, there is little reason to believe that the kind of real change needed in our nation will be made by either the Democrat or the Republican winner in 2012. But there is an exception this year.
As we watch Mr. Obama’s assault on religious liberty and other portions of the Constitution, there is one candidate who stands apart from the CFR’s tight grip on presidential politics. During 15 terms in Congress, Ron Paul has demonstrated an unmatched commitment to the Constitution that has always included his campaigns against the Federal Reserve and for the return to sound money.
When commentator Paul Harvey retired several years ago, he said, “Goodbye America! You were great while you lasted.” The chance to keep America as a free country exists and Ron Paul is the man who has pledged to do it.

North Woods is tops
According to Field and Stream magazine, one of the six best wild places in the country happens to be Maine’s North Woods. Maine is the only state east of the Mississippi that is mentioned. Other states include Alaska and Colorado, to mention a couple. If a strict alphabetical order had been followed, Alaska would have been placed at the top of the list of the best wild places.
As it turns out, it is Maine’s North Woods that has been placed at the top of the list. There is something about these North Woods that attracts the attention of nature lovers. While the creation of jobs, especially good-paying jobs, is very important, so is the protection of the environment.
These two, the creation of jobs and the protection of the environment, should not be made to go against each other. They are both important. Maine’s North Woods should not suffer environmental degradation in the name of job creation.

Highway has potential
Last week the Maine Senate finally passed the resolve directing the Department of Transportation to oversee an unbiased, investment-grade study of a toll highway running across Maine from Calais to Coburn Gore known as the east-west highway. The governor is expected to sign the bill sometime in the coming week. I sponsored this bill and have worked hard to get it passed because I believe it will be good for the economy of this area, not because I own land to sell for the right of way or any other personal gain, as some have tried to claim.
This highway will reduce transportation costs for customers of Maine products in the midwest and western United States as well as Canada. It’s hundreds of miles closer for us to Detroit by way of Central Canada. We’ll get more tourists from our neighbors on three sides of Maine in Canada if the roads to get here are better.
It has been said that the biggest user will be Canadian trucks; if that’s true they’ll be paying most of the tolls. There have been concerns expressed about the taking of private property, but most of the landowners on the route want this road to be built and are willing to allow such a use. The plan is to use existing logging roads and other old rights of way to minimize those and environmental concerns. The benefits of this project will far outweigh the costs.

GOP and humor
I can see why the Republican party is in such a disarray. All one needs to do is read a few letters to the editor in various papers and you can see.
I’ve read Obama is a Muslim and at the same time criticized for being a member of Rev. Wright’s church for a number of years. He has been criticized for prosecuting the underwear bomber in U.S. court instead of a military court, yet Bush did the same exact same thing with the shoe bomber.
Obama apologizes to Afghans for burning Koran and is weak, yet Bush did the same to Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki for shooting the Koran as target practice; no mention of weakness there.
I have not seen increases in taxes, guns being taken, Nazi concentration camps or death panels for Obamacare. Obama’s Civilian Army hasn’t been formed, Massachusetts residents have not revolted over their hated health care, Donald Trump has not found that Obama was not born in the U.S. and the economy has not gotten worse.
Maybe Rick Santorum had something in mind when he criticized President Obama for wanting U.S. citizens to become more educated. The papers sure would be humorless with more educated people writing letters.

Secret votes would help
Being well into my twilight years as I am, I have much I can reflect upon politically and otherwise. Recently I have been doing a lot of thinking about the political mess this country is in, what with all the partisan discord and the extremes the Republican Party will go to in order to prevent the reelection of a Democratic president who, seemingly, is hell bent for the average person, man, woman or child.
In looking back over the years, I can remember no other time in my life when there has been such debilitating tension.
Well, it occurs to me that the troubles we are presently having all come about as a result of the influence big money has these days through super-PACs and big corporations that don’t pay taxes and giant oil companies that get government subsidies while making enormous profits, etc.
It seems to me the root cause of the conundrum to which I refer is identified every Saturday in every major newspaper in this country when, in the national news section, the manner in which every senator and congressman voted during that week on this or that bill is reported in open forum for all the biggies to peruse and determine if those they have given their money to will ever get their money again.
Sometimes the most complex problems have the simplest solutions: do away with open voting and go to a secret ballot.

Irwin Dube – The Maine North Woods will fall off of the list if the wind turbine junkies get their way and ruin it.
Verne Flood – Come out of your progressive cave. Talk about needing to be educated.
Re-Mr. Dube–Lets leave the Maine North Woods as a working forest not dug up mining for gold.
Re- Mr. Flood-What part of his letter was incorrect? Or are you saying he should become a right wing nut like those that have written all the crazy stuff?
EJP doesn’t get specific, he just gets personal.
Mr. Flood’s letter is completely biased to the left. That, in itself, deems it false, just as a letter completely biased to the right would do the same. Mr. Flood needs to look at both sides.
You write, “Mr. Flood’s letter is completely biased to the left. That, in itself, deems it false, just as a letter completely biased to the right would do the same.”
But, EJ, everything you write is completely biased to the far right. So, if I understand you correctly, you are telling us that everything you say is, therefore, false. It’s intresting that you admit this!
Open your other eye when you read what I write.
As before, speaking of education … I know, only “your” endorsed education.
I was debating on posting this but the question needed to be asked? We have seen postings from EJ Parsons and AmCon centering on the President’s birth certificate, religion and other false statements made by the far right. Both EJ and AmCon claim to be “christians” yet refuse to stop accepting and spreading falsehoods against the President. Here’s my question… what part about “bearing false witness against thy neighbor” do you not understand?
First of all, thank you for actually asking a question instead of your usual hacking and insulting. That’s a step in the right direction.
Secondly, I have only questioned the Presidents Christian values based on his actions and his relationship with Reverend Wright.
As for his birth certificate, even the one he produced last year has not been confirmed. And that’s where that one stands.
“other false statements by the far right”? Please, specify.
Verne – you nailed it.
The GOP is a party struggling against itself, because it can not see the evil within its own ranks. Because they are at war with this evil among them, their message is mixed. A house divided can’t stand!
Robert,
I agree with you, but most Americans don’t want to be saved. Most appear to love big government, and the big nanny state that it provides.
Verne,
If you’re implying that more education makes a better person, then I say your wrong! Give me a person with a little common sense over education any day.
Phil,
But Phil, that would be against union rules.
Speaking of a need forf education. Inaddition, “common sense” is often (too) common non-sense.
Vern Flood notes the humor of conservative thought processing and instantly their posts show up to illustrate his point. Too funny!!!
(Dr. Democracy’s comment excepted.)
You should be ashamed of yourself using the word”Boy” as part of our Presidents name, knowing the negative connotation it has in the Black community. All I can say is your ignorance is certainly showing!
I think that is why Obama wanted more education for the USA.
Wait for the typical reply when the Limbaugh/Beck/Teaparty/conservative crowd get called for making comments like that. They will accuse you of playing the race card. Despicable!
The only thing I can say is thank the powers that be that you are no longer at the head of a classroom brain washing and destroying childrens minds
Wondering what your curriculum would look like. LOL
Or they’ll call President Obama a racist.
Robert Acheson: you also nailed it. The Council on Foreign Relations, far from being some socialist outfit, is about as traditional as any such non-governmental body in America; consists of the most mainstream business, banking, and other leaders; has been criticized for decades for being much too moderate in its views and publications; and is not seeking to throw out the New Deal in the manner of the Koch Bros. and, to some extent, Ron Paul. Paul’s Congressional newsletters for decades have been filled with anti-Semitic, anti-immigrant, and other bigoted rantings, all of which he has always denied having anything to do with. If Rep. Pingree or Rep. Michaud’s newsletters contained one iota of such biogtry, they’d have to explain it, where Paul simply ignores it as if Martians wrote it. Yes, some of his positions like eliminating the Patriot Act or downsizing our foreign adventures make sense to many of us who can’t imagine him in the White House. Before the New Hampshire primary one of Paul’s TV ads condemned then fellow GOP candidate John Huntsman for having adopted a baby from India and thereby giving her a chance in this world. The ad was outrageous. Is this the kind of leader decent Americans want? I pray not.
More media propaganda. Truth be known, the origin of this video was known to have originated from the Huntsman campaign. The fact that it did not surface from anywhere else is where this statement originated from. The Paul camp has tried to pinpoint its origins since it first surfaced because it was an ad that did not in any way reflect the positions of Ron Paul. His record shows that he defends the rights of all individuals over the rights of groups. So you have also lost all credibility!
That video did not originate with Huntsman. Huntsman is an intelligent, respected and responsible diplomat and would certainly not have done anything so mean as making a vicious video insulting the children he and his wife adopted. Ron Paul on the other hand can be shown to be something of a weaselly little racist /nationalist with followers cut from the same cloth who would certainly do something as dumb as creating a video suggesting that it was un-American to learn the language of the country one was a diplomate to. Learning Chinese when you are are ambassador to China, oooo, that’s really scary.
All Mormon parents wish their children could be a lot more like Huntsman and a lot less like Romney. Sadly, to do that would require that the children and their parents convert to Buddhism.
One of the reasons Huntsman was a good choice to be ambassador to China was that he already spoke fluent Mandarin. He learned Mandarin in his younger days when he was a Mormon missionary to China.
Mr. Acheson: If the people want freedom, then they need to stand up and demand freedom and accept the responsibility that goes with freedom. It won’t really matter who is elected as long as the people refuse their civic duty to be informed and act responsibly.
Mr. Dube: I, too, love the Maine woods. But I also understand that real people live there and they need meaningful employment. The hunters, snowmobile riders, and outdoor enthusiasts, while an important part of the north economy, are not enough to support the families that live there year round. I think there is enough room for the Fields and Streams demographic and business development to co-exist.
Great job Senator Thomas!
Mr. Flood and Tobin: Thanks for the chuckle. Bush was criticized just as much as Obama is. One town in Vermont voted to arrest Bush or Cheney on war crimes charges if they ever entered their jurisdiction. The esteemed Libby Mitchell was caught on camera holding, and laughing over, a photo with Bush labeled as a terrorist. I sat in a college history class a week after 9/11 and listened to a young college student claim that Bush was behind the terrorist attacks–for what reason, she wasn’t too clear on, but the professor of the class nodded in agreement with her statements, and said nothing in defense of our President. Plus, remember all the hue and cry that he wasn’t even really elected–the Supreme Court put him in office. I could go on here, but I think you will just have to get over the fact that not everyone loves your Obama. And those people have their own reasons- as unreasonable as some of those reasons may be. The left produces just as many gut-wrenching guffaws as the right does.
Finally Mr. Tobin–in the interests of furthering democracy, you would advise cloaking the essence of a democratic government–the public’s right to know how their representatives vote on issues? May you continues to live long, in good health and spirits, and may you accumulate more wisdom.
You sounded very well informed until you mentioned that we were some kind of ‘democracy’! We are a constitutional republic. I suggest you educate yourself on the difference before you find yourself in a socialist state. You know the analogy of a democracy being 2 wolves and 1 sheep voting on what’s for dinner! Where as in a republic everyone is responsible for their own damned dinner!
In a republic the sheep elect representative wolves. So you may be responsible for your own dinner but the choice, all items to make you fat and tasty were picked out for you by the wolves.
LOL!
And yet you still think that one political party is better than the other, based upon a system destined to fail from corruption and legal loopholes? Insanity.
Yes, we all know that right-wingers have an allergic reaction to the word “democracy,” because it reminds them of the Democratic Party. Most nations are republics. And to say “constitutional” is to describe every country in the world — even Britain refers to its “constitution,” although theirs is described as “unwritten.”
Cuba is a constitutional republic, and so is China. But neither Cuba nor China are democratic republics. We are a democratic republic, or, if we wanted to be more precise yet long-winded, we are a constitutional democratic republic — or a constitutional republican democracy.
Because the words “constitutional” and “republic” describe almost every government on earth, we commonly refer to ourselves as a “democracy,” even though everyone knows we are not a direct democracy, because that’s impractical for anything bigger than a New England town meeting. Saying we are a “democracy,” although somewhat imprecise, differentiates us from other constitutional republics, like Cuba and China. Maybe you just can’t stand any word that reminds you of the Democratic Party.
Pray, tell me where there is any nation in the world that is a democracy: where citizens vote directly on all matters. Please also tell me what socialist state is a democracy. You simply sound very confused. Every nation, from the USA to India, which calls itself a democracy, is actually a representative democracy. One of the few nations on the planet that could still be called a socialist state, Cuba, is not a representative democracy, let alone a pure democracy.
I suspect that WL is either trying to sound intelligent, or just doesn’t like any word that reminds people of the Democratic Party. So WL insists that we are a constitutional republic, yet that term describes almost every nation on earth. Even Hitler’s Germany and Stalin’s Soviet Union were constitutional republics. What sets us apart from them is that we are a democratic republic — and we use the shorthand “democracy” because it conveys the meaning that our particular constitutional republic is of the democratic variety.
Well said.
Verne Flood: Great letter.
This was truly a good example of a perfect blog for personal use. Thanks for inspiring me. I really got great information from your relevant post. This will surely help many others.
Great thanks!
Colorado State Flag
I agree with letter writer Mr. Acheson. Ron Paul is the only candidate positioned to preserve the Constitution, now categorized by the power elite as more of a guideline rather than the law of the land. The office of President, under Barack Obama, now claims it has the power to assassinate U.S. citizens, or lock them up indefinitely without charge or trial. Ron Paul is the only candidate who will end the ever-expanding war for empire, wars that are making enemies around the world, and bring the troops home.
Paul believes in his version of the Constitution, not the actual one. He has a horrible track record on the first and fifth amendments. He has actively campaigned against the 14th and 17th amendments (amendments become part of the Constitution when they are passed). All in all, his record of actually defending the Constitution is overstated, and his quackery (medical doctors should not be licensed) is under stated.
You have no knowledge of this man or his accomplishments. You would rather follow the status quo and allow things to continue unabated rather than seek the facts. The real quackery is this dribble that you choose to parrot. How rediculous to claim that Paul somehow has possession of some phony constitution! Have you ever even read the constitition? Your comments are lame and misinformed and you would suit your fellow man better to not spew this kind of garbage as though it could possibly pass as truth!
“Lame and misinformed” and yet your own comment includes no substance whatsoever. That letter is right, the GOP is funny!
I have plenty of knowledge of this man and his accomplishments. I am also intelligent enough to see that he is wrong. When I referred to his constitution, I was implying that Ron Paul believes in Ron Paul’s interpretation of the Constitution. It would be pretty remarkable if Ron Paul alone knew what was in the Constitution since even the people who wrote it, read it, and signed it disagreed with what was in the Constitution. I realize that being a Ron Paul supporter, your understanding of the underpinnings of this nation are… well… let’s just call them unsophisticated, but the older you get, the more you read, the more you will understand Ron Paul is not exactly a Constitutional scholar, he is a snake oil salesman doing what snake oil salesmen do, which of course is taking advantage of rubes.
Itr77, what nonsense. Typical Obamabot troll, can’t speak to the facts regarding the President’s shredding of the Constitution, so spouts smears, innuendo and deflections instead. Ron Paul is a strict constitutionalist. Obama, on the other hand, claims the right to assassinate American citizens on his say-so alone. That is dangerous Constitutional quackery, and I challenge you to defend that.
Paul is not a strict Constitutionalist. He is actively trying to get rid of two amendments and he has no regard for the Welfare clause, the first amendment or the fifth. In terms of Obama, it is truly alarming I agree. However, it is no more alarming than rounding up terrorist suspects and detaining them indefinitely. The argument could be made (not saying I buy it completely, but it could be made) that Obama is well within his rights to kill someone in a foreign country who has taken up arms against our country since they are not covered by the Constitution when they are in a foreign land. Again, I am not saying I agree with it, but it would be full well within the power of the Constitution.
Post the act, verbatim, that gives President Obama this power to assassinate any American on his say so. No waving of hands and saying, “the NDAA gives him this power” quote the exact wording of your claim.
msallyjones, I am happy to clarify. I stated two things above: one, that Presidential candidate Ron Paul is a strict constitutionalist, and two, that President Obama claims the right to assassinate U.S. citizens on his say-so alone. Seems clear enough.
You miss the point, an extremely important one, when you demand that I cite the Act that gives President Obama the authority to assassinate U.S. citizens. Your energy would be far better spent demanding that President Obama himself produce it than me. Why? Because it doesn’t exist. The President claims authority he does not have. Obama has no legal right whatsoever to assassinate U.S. citizens.
Yet, he has done it, at least twice, that they admit to. On this alone, President Obama should be impeached.
For a good outline of the issue, I recommend this New York Times editorial, dated March 10th, 2012: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/11/opinion/sunday/the-power-to-kill.html
First paragraph of the NYTimes editorial:
‘President Obama, who came to office promising transparency and adherence to the rule of law, has become the first president to claim the legal authority to order an American citizen killed without judicial involvement, real oversight or public accountability.’
You cease being protected by the U.S. Constitution, when you are no longer on U.S. Soil. A strict Constitutionalist like yourself should know this.
During the Civil War the U.S. government killed tens of thousands of U.S. citizens who were in open rebellion against the United States. Because we did not recognize the legitimacy of the so-called “Confederate States of America,” we considered the entire South to be part of the United States, and Southerners to be U.S. citizens. Yet we killed tens of thousands of them on U.S. soil because they were at war with the United States. And this killing was ordered by a Republican named Abraham Lincoln. Tell me, was Lincoln in violation of the Constitution, and should he have been impeached for the killing of so many U.S. citizens?
Sounds like you’re the racist one around here. Have a little bit of decency and respect (I realize that may be asking a little bit much from your ilk).
There you go again. It is time for you to grow up, get educated and stop embarrassing yourself.
Irwin Dube…good point…but it will be the Maine people who will be the stewards of the Maine North Woods …not the Federal Government.
Verne Flood,
The President promised change, as you point out…nothing changed…in fact it has gotten worse under this administration. I do not see humor or stupidity, I see anger and frustration in most people.
We now have the NDAA. We have a new ‘treaspass’ executive order that will indefinitely detain anyone who dares voice an opinion at any event where the secret service is actively involved. Such as political rallies, marches on Washington etc. The US has been subdivided into 5 FEMA regions where ‘temporary’ detainment centers have been constructed. The US has been declared a war zone because of possible terrorists on our soil. The list goes on and on and on. Do you really think the government is unaware of the dissent of it’s citizens?
Instead of waving your rhetoric around like a demented fanatic, why don’t you quote the actual bills and acts that you think set up FEMA “detainment centers”, those treaspass(sic) orders for detaining people with opinions and the declaration of the United States are a war zone in order to control citizens.
Where do you people get this stuff?????
I’m not sure (not refuting, I just don’t recall) if on the last point an area actually would be declared a ‘war zone’ before all forms of protest are rendered illegal. A new law was passed that stipulates if a person under secrect service protection is in the vicinity all protest is a felony offense – and here’s the kicker – even if nobody knows there is any such person(s) there to begin with.
WL said,”The US has been declared a war zone because of possible terrorists on our soil”. Do you like WL believe the US has been declared a war zone? If so who declared it? Can either you or WL show the bills or acts that describe any of this nonsense?
The nice thing about a conspiracy theory is the lack of evidence. If there is no evidence at all, that’s proof that there is a comspiracy to hide the evidence. :-)
Of course — and you know this because there is absolutely no evidence. The nice thing about a conspiracy theory is that you don’t need facts or evidence. If there is no evidence for your conspiracy theory, that just proves that there is a conspiracy to hide the evidence. It make a perfect circular argument.
How do I know that Rick Santorum is from the Planet Mongo? Because there is no evidence. Therefore, there has been a conspiracy to cover up all of the evidence, and because we have no evidence at all, people must be covering up the evidence. That’s how we know that he is from the Planet Mongo!
Maine is already a very hungry welfare state. Most of it’s citizens welcome the Federal government handouts as if the government actually had ‘finances’ to hand out. Most don’t seem to understand that there are no ‘government’ resources! How government gives to anyone is by taking from someone else, plain and simple! Coming to expect this as a way of life is an abomination!
You sound a lot like LePage characterizing Mainers too lazy to work. Both of you are wrong. Mainers are hard working. They don’t live off government hand outs and don’t take kindly to people that say they do. Get your statistics straight before you and your governor start calling Mainers lazy bums.
Mainers, to my knowledge, have always been the hardest workers of any Americans I’ve ever met! My statements have noting to do with the pride and commitment of Mainers. But, Mainers that have become dependant on the welfare state. Those that believe that it si somehow okay to have a government that will steal from one group to reward another are wrong. Local governments first, then county up to states. This is where it should stop. If Maine wants to subsidize a group at the expense of another that’s up to Maine. But when the Federal Government steals from states to reward others. Now we no longer have states rights and we no longer have compitition among states. We have regulation by force!
Have you ever left the state of Maine?
Why do you ask?
Yes, conservatives can be comical but no where near the level of humor brought to us by the
moonbats, viros, global alarmists, bureaucrats, special interests and the
uber-wealthy trying desperatly to defend an ideology that common sense working people scoff at.
And the “ideology” Democrats are trying desperately to defend is universal health care. What is so moon batty about decent health coverage for all Americans?
It is moonbatty to believe that somehow the government can “give” us all quality healthcare. Especially with ObamaCare – what a collosal joke the ACA is. The ACA will , however, destroy the private insurance markets and that is your goal.
And you expected the insurance companies to give you great health care coverage. Silly you. Silly, Republicans.
I expect them to give us the coverage we ask them to not what some bureau of bureacrats has determined by committee what is “fair.” How difficult to comprehend is that?
Go for it. Good luck and god bless. You’ll need it.
I hear stories all the time about those bad insurance companies. Personally, I have never had a problem with my health insurance company. We submit the bills, they pay them. We pay the premiums, the co-pays, meet the deductibles–they pay the rest, as agreed to when we signed up for the plan.
Meeting those deductibles must be a pretty hefty amount considering your family has nine children.
Wanda? Crickets?
I don’t know what your point is. We pay what we need to pay. Fortunately, our children are healthy.
All nine children healthy all the time? My, my, that is fortunate. What’s your deductible?
Off the top of my head–I don’t know. Somewhere in the single thousands range–I could look it up if you really want to know. There is an individual yearly limit and a family limit. I really haven’t needed to use the insurance much because, yes, all nine are very healthy nearly all the time.
We have been paying some dental co-pays lately for dental problems. My spouse handles the dentist appointments, though.
Thanks. I forgot about the family limit.
With supporters like these the only thing Ron Paul will save us from is our last shred of political sanity. LOL
Robert: I noticed you mentioned Obama’s “assault on religious liberty and other portions of the Constitution.” You apparently failed to mention assaults on the Constitution (at least for the non-elites), by every single other President in the history of the United States. That tells me you’re more of a super right wing partisan who is only unhappy with the current slate of candidates because they are not far enough to the right for you, not that you are REALLY looking for change (which you won’t get).
Ok…So you read a book and name dropped. Yes, I’m sure that one book has everything figured out. Not. However, I will give you credit for realizing that there is some sort of conspiracy out there, but again you got wrapped up in the partisan drivel to be able to see what is really happening. Simply put, a handful of (mostly) American corporations in the hands of a small super elite (think the Rockefellers, Harrimans, Carnegies, Morgans, etc.) have been running the show for years. They’ve wrapped themselves up in fraudulent patriotism (corporations know no borders), have deeply entrenched themselves in our school systems by hijacking history (such as creating the University of Chicago) and drilling their message in the heads of the young via texts and the media and calling it patriotism, have become wonderful masters of fear propaganda (brought to you by Eddie Bernays), to convince the American public to go along like sheep with their plans, and have created a “war is the only answer” mentality in far too many Americans by portraying other nations as dangers to the U.S., when in reality we are more a danger to others.
As far as blaming Obama…he’s not in charge of it any more than any of the rest…the elites give Americans two choices every four years…and they don’t really care who wins since they control both. If you do care, then you’re not an elite. As far as Ron Paul being someone the elites can’t control: Hogwash. Either they will totally control him or Congress or both. You could elect anybody you want to the Presidency and it won’t make a difference.
And as far as the Constitution being subverted…it hasn’t and it won’t. It was written by 55 wealthy white guys to protect their interests…and it has done so ever since. Anyone else who thinks the U.S. Constitution was REALLY meant for them was sitting in one of the 60,000 propaganda filled civics classrooms for too long.
Dear WL:
Your logic here is rather flawed. Why would the Huntsman campaign have aired a bigoted TV ad mocking both the candidate and the girl whose live he saved? Would the Romney campaign pay for a TV ad mocking Mormonism? And does this mean that, as I said before, Paul’s decades of anti-Semitic and anti-immigrant comments on his own Congressional newsletter mean that he also had nothing to do with this bigotry? So who did? The Martians. Paul’s embrace of individual rights doesn’t extend to groups he obviously despises. It may shock you, but there is ample evidence from his own taxpayer-paid for newsletters dating to his first days in the House.
You are sounding more and more like the bully in the Blaine House.
Ron Paul stands about as much chance at being the Republican candidate for President as I do.
I’m betting you have more integrity than Ron Paul. So you actually have a better chance to be the candidate than Paul LOL
If Sen. Thomas is correct and if his bill results in an “unbiased” study of the proposed E-W highway and if we get an honest assessment of whether or not the road would be good for Maine, it might be worth the $300,000-plus that it’ll cost us taxpayers. An “unbiased” stydy might also tell us whether Sen. Thomas is correct when he asserts that the “benefits of this project will far outweigh the costs”.
It may be shorter to get “…to Detroit by way of Central
Canada”, but that would mean clearing Canadian Customs at Coburn Gore(?) and then re-entering the U.S. at Detroit(?), and vice-versa. That would mean that all U.S. citizens who use the road would have to have a U.S. passport or passport card. Unless Mr. Vigue has enough “pull” to get such pesky things waived for his road.
And don’t we have to see the proposed route(s) for the road before we can decide “… if most of the
landowners on the route want this road to be built” and how they will “minimize …environmental concerns”?
I would prefer to see work done on the current interstate we have in place first before we build another one that the state again won’t take care of. Tough noogies for you if you have to drive past Millinocket to that great “North Woods” to do anything – I hope there is enough of your vehicle’s suspension and tires left to identify it for the insurance company when it disintegrates below you (while you’re going 75 mph to boot on that said road)…
Dear Senator Thomas,
Please look at a map and notice that Maine already has an east-west railroad (MMA Railway) that connects Montreal to Atlantic Canada. Recall a year ago the State had to buy MMA’s north-south line to Aroostook County because of declining traffic and repair it at taxpayer expense. Now you want to build a road parallel to MMA’s east-west rail line. I see a pattern here. Can you?
The only pattern I see is that rail is not viable without a huge infusion of government cash, whereas roads are. $300,000 for the study, and a privately run toll road. Opens trade routes, makes northern Maine more accessible for business and tourism.
No cash is necessary. The railroad is already there. It’s already running trains every day between Montreal and St. John on the exact same route as the proposed road. And a “huge infusion of government cash” doesn’t usually result in anything viable.
I guess I don’t understand what you are suggesting? It seems the rail that now exists is not the route shippers want to use for their goods.
The highway would go from Megantic QC to Calais ME. The existing railroad from Montreal to New Brunswick passes through Megantic and Vanceboro ME. They are parallel routes. The proposed road, and the existing railroad, both connect Montreal with St. John NB. Gas and diesel prices are going up every day. Does is make sense to spend two billion dollars on a new road that is parallel to an under-utilized railroad? The cost to borrow two billion dollars to build the road, at 5 percent interest, over 30 years, is $367,000 per day. Now add the cost to maintain and plow the road. Want to invest?
Verne Flood, you rock! People need to be reminded just how many times the Republicans have tried to stir up panic over non-existent problems. It’s easy to forget when Fox New and talk radio stir up the latest “crisis” that it’s just the latest fake outrage in a string of fake outrages that goes back a couple of decades.
Robert Bruce Acheson,
It doesn’t matter who you vote for. The system was set up to fail, purposfully. No one you vote for will make a difference, it is only an illusion of choice. Paul got cheated of his win in Maine, and why do you think that is? The Neo-cons in the GOP have pushed out real conservatives like Paul from the party.
It’s too late to change the system, but it’s never too late to accept Jesus into your life. In a world of turmoil, the only thing that hasn’t changed was God, and through Jesus we see this clearly. Forgiveness is now a part of the law which does not require sacrifice, since Jesus was that perfect sacrifice once and for all. Now instead of sacrifice, all we have to do to be forgiven is believe that Jesus was sent by God: Is God in the flesh, having the power and authority of God.
How great it is, that we don’t have to be burdened with the entire weight of the law, but believe only and be saved! But forgiveness of trespasses against the law, means the law is still the same it has always been. This means we’re supposed to follow the law as much as humanly possible, and ask for forgiveness when we falter and fail. The same Jesus who said “I have not come to change one iota of the law” also said “Go, and SIN NO MORE” and “Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone”.
We’re in this mess, because we’ve collectively forsaken God and His instruction. He is being pushed out of our lives, by legislation, by shame, by academics who foolishly proclaim “there is no God” (even though by their own standards, you can not prove a negative…), by fear of reprisal from legal entities, by political correctness and mass media that downplays, waters down or ignores the message of the bible. How quickly we forget the promises He makes us, when we stick to His plan! Maybe if we stuck to what Jesus told us, we could stop they who “worship the beast” from plotting against us, but that requires a little faith on our part.
If you know about the CFR, then you know that most all people at high levels of power, are Theistic Satanists; hence “they worship the beast, and he gives them their power”. GW Bush is not a “born again Christian”, and neither is Obama a Christian. It’s not a “left vs right” problem, it’s a “good vs evil” problem, and there is both good and evil on both sides of the political aisle. Theistic Satanists are a real threat, thinking Satan to be god, who they worship in ignorance to their detriment. And because they worship Satan and not God, they are lead astray, to kill and to be killed.
Don’t believe a lie, Satan is real, and is evil. He’s not some poor whip, downtrodden and unlucky. Satan is purposefully evil, and does every thing as an affront to God. Satan only cares for himself, whereas God loved you so much that He literally layed down His life for you.
