BANGOR – It is with much celebration and rejoicing that Trudy M. Wilson passed earth’s final test and graduated to heaven at 10:42 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2012. Socrates was asked by young Alexander the Great this simple yet provocative question, “How many is one?” Understanding this was not the question of a foolish lad he responded, “It depends on the nature and influence of the one.” To know Trudy Wilson is to understand her life was a demonstration of this principle. Her strength and courage has taught us the meaning of faith. Her perseverance through difficult circumstances has demonstrated the meaning of trusting God through his intended purpose.
Her love shines through the many lives she has touched with her giving spirit. Through her numerous spiritual, physical and mental trials she always demonstrated a compassion for the needs of others. In good times and bad, in sickness and in health, she always had open arms, comforting words and a loving heart. It is said the same fire that destroys wood makes the purest gold. The latter is the example she has left for all to witness. Trudy Wilson was born May 26, 1940, in Washburn, to David and Edna Wilcox.
She grew up the daughter of a potato farmer and later on, store owner. In 1959 she graduated from Carmel High School. For several years she was a self-sacrificing, single mother working at Bangor Mental Health Institute as the assistant manager of the patients’ convenience store. She met Glenn Wilson in 1966 and they were married Dec. 14, 1968. This year they would have celebrated 43 years of marriage. As a struggling young couple with two children, they conceived the idea of a tax practice. Working from their kitchen table they turned this into the Bangor based business known as Mr. Tax. For 34 years she worked as the receptionist, secretary, copier, purchasing clerk, office manager and personal assistant to her loving husband. Her primary goal from the beginning was to make her husband a success. In 1995 she also became a business partner with her husband in River City Commercial Cleaning, Inc. Trudy was diagnosed with a terminal lung disease in 2002 and has suffered through various illnesses. The grace and dignity she demonstrated through the years have been a source of strength and commitment to all. In the latter stages of her disease she provided comfort for the broken hearted, encouragement for those with terminal illness, and was a witness for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The disease finally overtook her body but her spirit and example will live on.
Trudy Wilson was a devoted wife to Glenn Wilson; a compassionate daughter to her mother, Edna Wietz and her late father, David Wilcox; a wonderful sister to Stacy, Darrell Wilcox, and her late brother, Stanley; a loving mother to Ronald and Kimberley Patoka, Brenda Wilson-Haney and fiance, Michael Denning, Tiffany Mercier and friend, Mark Lothian, Stacey and Jason Hobert, and Rocco Santa-Fe; and compassionate grandmother to Shaun, Jonathan, Courtney, Taylar, Hunter, Calvin, Morgan, Madison, McKenzie, Veronica, and future granddaughter, Catherine Denning.
