WALDOBORO – Irvinia “Vinnie” Gould, 76, beloved wife and mother, went home to be with the Lord April 10, 2012, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease and cancer. She died peacefully at her home with several members of her family by her side. She was born May 29, 1936, in Cutler, the fifth child of Frank and Marjorie Peabody Porter.
Vinnie graduated from Washington Academy, East Machias, in 1954. The following year she attended Washington State Teachers College for the year and married Keith Gould of Jonesport in 1955. She began her teaching career in Fairfield in 1956. While teaching for the next several years she also attended summer and weekend classes at the University of Maine and obtained her goal of receiving her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine in 1965. Shortly thereafter she received her master’s degree also from the University of Maine. After 35 years of teaching, the last 20 years in Warren, she retired. Throughout her life she has always been a “friend in need.” She thoroughly enjoying attending most of her son’s and grandchildren’s school activities ranging from baseball, basketball, soccer, field hockey and other school activities. Family was very important to her. She loved being around the family at the reunions trying to make it to every one. When the family was around there was always a good time to be had by all. Vinnie loved music and attended nearly 1,100 concerts throughout the years with her husband, Keith, enjoying concerts by such artists as Frank Sinatra, Billy Joel, Neil Diamond, The Beach Boys, Celine Dion, Elton John, as well as many others. She lived a very interesting and enjoyable life traveling through 49 out of the 50 states and most countries in Europe.
She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 57 years, Keith Gould of Waldoboro; son, Randy Gould and wife, Sherrie, of Corinna; granddaughters, Jessica and husband, Joe, of Portland, and Kirsten; grandson, Taylor; brothers, Arthur Porter and wife, Alice, of Cutler, and Clifford Porter and wife, Beatrice, of Augusta; sister, Linda Eldridge and husband Joe, of Cutler; sister-in-law, Maxine Porter of Cutler; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by sister, Elizabeth Wood; and brother, Verlan Porter. The family thanks the staff at Kno-Wal-Lin Hospice for all of their compassion and care.
Visiting hours will be held 4-6 p.m. Sunday, April 15, at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, April 16, with Pastor David Howe.
