BANGOR, Maine — They were barred by court order from being together after a previous assault, but she went to his house anyway and on Sunday morning he assaulted her and was arrested, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Monday.
Jeffrey Mayhew, 27, of Bangor and the 38-year-old woman were “together even though she knew they weren’t supposed to,” the sergeant said. “She went there knowing she shouldn’t have.”
Mayhew was arrested in March and charged with domestic violence assault after the couple got into a heated argument and he reportedly pushed her, Edwards said at the time.
Police were called to his Pine Street residence about 11:25 a.m. Sunday and found the victim with visible bruising around the eyes, and head and shoulder pain, Edwards said.
“She was assaulted physically,” the sergeant said.
The woman had a protection from harassment order against Mayhew, who was out on bail. He was arrested and charged with violating the protection order, violating his bail conditions and domestic violence assault.
Mayhew was taken to the Penobscot County Jail after his arrest Sunday morning. He remained behind bars on Tuesday, a jail official said.
Mayhew has a prior disorderly conduct conviction from 2008 and has three marijuana-related convictions, two for possession and one for cultivation, according to court listings printed in the Bangor Daily News.

Should she be arrested too? She went there knowing she shouldn’t have. He’ll be out pretty soon on a fifty dollar bail.
Amen!
If the woman had a protection order against him why go to the house? If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck its a duck , you can’t change these type of men.
“together even though she knew they weren’t supposed to,” the sergeant said. “She went there knowing she shouldn’t have.”
If she wasn’t there this wouldn’t of happen. She should be charge with instigating, but its all on the mans shoulders he is to blame no matter what which does not give hime the excuse to hit anyone
Maybe because he was the only one that did anything wrong. He assaulted her. He violated his bail. He violated the protection order. It’s on his shoulders because that’s where it belongs.
We do not know if he was the only one who did anything wrong. She may have hit him. Just she was not charged with anything. Sorry to say it dose happen . The cop did not see it happen just taking the statements and guessing.
She might also have robbed a bank and slapped the Queen of England but the story just doesn’t mention that. Please…..
ssssso didnt she the article said sssshe wasnt supposed to be there
she violated the order…….it was his house. Dumb female
She should be arrested as well, and the violating the protection order should be thrown out, he was at his home and she showed up there. He could of told her to leave and she didn’t and that is why it got heated, we will never really know the whole truth. He should never hit her!!
How do you know he didn’t invite her?
Not thinking it matter if he invited her or not she got the protection order. Why should anyone feel sorry for her even if he did hit her? She should have known what he is like after all getting a protection order from him in all.
Hell, I don’t know…..compassion, humanitarianism, belief in kindness. I bet you’re against those things .
Well I do not know her or anything about this case. Being a sucker for a hard luck story dose not always pay off.
I wonder if she hit him first? We already know she violated his protection order. Not saying she broke the law . A protection order should work both ways. Woman at mans house woman should be charged. I went out with a few woman who knew how to work the system.
She cannot violate his protection order. It only limited what he can do.
Your right. The law should be changed.
No it should not. The law works just fine and would have worked here had he not chosen to have contact when he knew it would result in multiple criminal offenses if he was caught.
Give me a freaking break . The law works just fine . Well I could tell you a story being wrongly accused of domestic assault before. Is not fun . She got the protection order she should have stayed away from him. The DA. Dose not care about the truth of what happens they just want a conviction.
That has nothing to do with this story. This isn’t about you. This is not a case of wrongful accusation.
Agreed . Just saying she should have stayed away from him he is a bad apple.
Dangerous guy, on that we agree.
article said she went there even though she knew she wasnt supposed to
Now he gets to file a protection from harassment order against her……What a waste of court time and tax money.
How is that so?
What is her problem? A restraining order against him and she voluntarily goes to his house? He must be some guy!!!!
Women like this are part of the reason why protection orders are a useless waste of paper. She should be arrested too.
No! Men like this are the reason some PFAs aren’t worth the paper they are written on. Lots of PFAs work…WHEN THE PERPETRATOR DOESN’T VIOLATE THEM.
Why wasn’t she charged as well?
I think that all the posters that are blaming this poor woman for the actions of this guy should be arrested. Not that they’ve committed a crime, mind you, but because I don’t like their choices.
I lost a lot of empathy for the damsels in distress. You have no Idea how SOME of these Poor woman are.
I have every idea how women are, as I happen to be one. How bout you Bob? How long have you been living as a woman or is your total experience the epic fail that you posted about earlier?
Well sorry you must have had a few bad relationships. Maybe you do not see the whole picture .Not saying anyone deserves to get hit. I dated a few woman who would cry about how thier ex treated them and run right back to thier ex when I treated them well. not an issue if they did not want to be with me but kinda hard to feel sorry for them when they would go right back after an abuser.
So you understand the grip a violent man might have over a woman he’s hurt, because you’ve seen it first hand. Sorry about that.
that girl should have been arrested also and the officers that didnt arrest her should be sent home without pay until they decide they are capable of doing their job. there is obviously some type of favortism going on here. I would like to here their logical reason why she wasnt arrested.
Didn’t break the law, maybe?
I’ve seen a lot of women like her in the Bangor area. They try their best to get their boyfriends upset so he’d hit her. Then she has an excuse to jail him or get her new boyfriend to beat him up. I have as little to do as possible with people like that. I avoid women like that. They are called “professional victims”. They are delusional and believe they live in Some Lifetime movie of the week. Yet they are the real predators. They go back time and time again to the most abusive man they can find and do nothing but instigate him and rattle his cage until he explodes and then she has an excuse to cry and gain attention from the public as being such a poor little victim. I’m NOT saying that all women that get abused are nothing more than “professional victims” but there are a lot of women that are more like that woman from the movie Fatal Attraction. But society is bigoted, biased, and brainwashed to hate men and believe that all men are bad and that every single last woman is good as gold. But until that changes there are going to be lots of situations just like the one in the article above. This post may be taken down by some liberal at the BDN but it’s all true. I’m not saying abuse is right but there are a lot of women out there that are nothing more than “professional victims” that set out to get men into trouble and gain attention at the same time.
…and she went where??? Wow that is a biased situation. It is clear that he is going to abuse her. She obviously wanted that. Let them go at each other and may the best person win. Why waste time and money on either one?
So why did “she” go to “his” house? ha ha Sounds like she got in his face first. Sorry but if the story was the other way around it would make more sense that he’d go to jail. Sounds like she’s what you call a “professional victim”.
