    1. Right.  ‘Cause a shootout at the library would plainly have been better than… whatever happened.

There are times for escalation.  I tend to doubt this was one of those.

  1. Before home PCs most of us went our public libraries to do research for High School and College projects. Can we all imagine the protests  from parents today  if the majority of  their teenage kids had to put up these dangerous disruptions. We were scolded by the librarian for whispering too loud. This is not an isolated incident, public libraries across the nation are experiencing the same problems. Law abiding citizens are being driven from our nations libraries by not only disruptive people, but down right dangerous criminals.

  2. Sounds like the police handled it well enough. Remember now that  we cannot legally force and mental case to take his medications and we have closed down most of the mental hospitals. Now of course we were supposed to replace them with local mental health centers, which never happened for the most part. Anyone who has had the misfortune to use what passes for mental help these days know what a joke  that is, so we just let crazy people wander the streets. Street people in the libraries is an old problem. If good law abiding people allowed themselves to be run out of the library, then who is going to be left there. Time to develop some back bone and complain, even call the police yourselves.
