PORTLAND, Maine — A New Gloucester man was sentenced Wednesday in federal court in Portland to 25 years in federal prison for taking pornographic pictures of a boy under the age of 4 and himself and posting them online.
Christopher Veazie, 22, waived indictment and pleaded guilty in December to sexual exploitation of a child and possession of child pornography.
He has been held without bail since then.
In addition to prison time, U.S. District Judge George Singal sentenced Veazie to 15 years of supervised release after he completes his prison term.
Veazie also will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
Between Jan. 1 and March 25, 2011, Veazie took photographs of himself and the naked boy, according to the prosecution version of events to which Veazie pleaded guilty.
Veazie’s crimes were discovered on March 25, 2011, after he asked a friend to try to clear his laptop computer of viruses. The female friend, who is not named in court documents, called police.
Veazie faced between 15 and 30 years in federal prison on the exploitation charge and up to 10 years in prison on the possession of child pornography charge. He also faced fines of up to $250,000 on each charge.

Viewing child pornography is a bad enough crime, but actually producing it is the sickest of the sickest crime of all
I agree.
I agree too.
We can’t cure them of the sickest of fantasies. We are all guilty of some kind of sexual of an unfulfilled fantasy, but that is not nearly the same as the “sickest crime of all”!
I will stand by my previous posts stating that Child Pornography should be prosecuted exclusively in Federal Court. In my opinion they are the only court venue that takes the crime as seriously as it should be and that there is no room for those convicted of these charges to manuever for a very light sentence as the US Sentencing Commission has a very firm sentencing guideline system.
In my opinion, all child sex crimes would be best prosecuted in federal court.
Since most of it is spread via computer, I suspect it is a Federal offense (interstate etc? Not sure about this.)
what a difference between the federal system & the state of Maine!
The lil boy is doing very well and has shown no ill effects thus far, he is happy healthy and loving, he also adores his new baby sister, and is very protective of her. the family themselves is please with the outcome of the sentencing and also are now relieved the preceedings are over and closure can be made.
