BANGOR – James “Jim” Blanchette, 77, husband of Pat Blanchette, died April 30, 2012, at a Bangor hospital, after a brief illness. He was born Jan. 23, 1935, in Tewksbury, Mass., son of Clarence and Edna B. (Campbell) Blanchette.
Jim served in the U.S. Army for four years. Upon discharge, he entered Bangor Theological Seminary, completing five years of study. He then became employed for the State of Maine, retiring in 1997 after 20 years. After retiring, Jim served many local churches, as well as guest pastoring. He was a member and past commander of James Williams VFW Post, and a commandant for the U.S. Coast Guard, Auxiliary. He was a commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America for 15 years, receiving the George Meany Award. He was an avid harness racing enthusiast, and an owner, trainer and breeder of Standard Bred horses.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Pat; are one son, Jimmy Blanchette of Brewer; one sister, Audrey George of Boston; one nephew, Frankie George of Boston; canine companion, Mr. Dylon; feline companions, Samantha and Simba.
The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 3, at the First United Methodist Church, Bangor, with the Rev. Dr. Randall Chretien, pastor, officiating.
