BANGOR, Maine — A man and a woman who both have prior convictions for domestic violence assault were arrested early Wednesday after a fight outside the Main Street Tavern, according to police.
Authorities were called to the tavern to respond to a fight between Timothy Stitham, 44, and Kimberly Sprague, 42, both of Bangor, according to Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards.
“A female witness said she saw another female across the street that the male subject hit in the head and then walked away,” the sergeant explained.
Officer Chris Blanchard interviewed Sprague, who claimed that Stitham had started the fight, but police determined that Sprague had hit Stitham when they interviewed him, according to Edwards.
“Blanchard decided both were guilty, which is rare but it does happen on occasion,” the sergeant said.
Both suspects appeared to be intoxicated, and Sprague’s probation violations prohibit her from consuming alcohol.
Sprague and Stitham were both arrested for domestic violence assault, a felony in this case due to their prior convictions, Edwards said, while Sprague is also facing a charge of violating her probation.
The suspects were taken to Penobscot County Jail, where Sprague refused to cooperate.
“Sprague refused to get out of the patrol car,” said Edwards. “She kicked the police car and wouldn’t get out.”
Sprague and Stitham remain at the jail Wednesday morning.

Sounds like a match made in hell.
Just a mating ritual.
A fight outside the Main St. Tavern?!? No way!
Peter Brountas has stated he’d like to expand the tavern into the now vacant Greyhound property. Great idea. More room for kneewalking drunks on Main St.
Isnt love grand.
There’s that old song “Love Hurts”…
A lovely couple.
Springtime in old Bangor. This was used to be the action on Exchange Street near the Silver Dollar (as I’m told) in the 1950’s and now it relocated up to Main Street.
AHH the Silver Dollar, I remember it well. As a kid, I use to go to the movies at the Bijou theater, then to the Silver Dollar to start looking for my Aunt to give me a ride home. If she wasn’t there, I’d go to the Brass Rail or the bar that was in the hotel there. If she wasn’t there, it was a short hike to the Paramont. Exchange Street had tons of bars back in the day.
If they were smoking pot this would have never happened! Sorry but the truth must hurt. Pour me another. So sad!!!
I think you have been smoking. I’ve seen a few belligerent pot smokers in my day.
