LYNN, Mass. — A Massachusetts man charged with killing his mother and grandmother, dumping their bodies behind an elementary school, then trying to flee to Canada, has been ordered held without bail at his arraignment.
Prosecutors on Thursday described a gruesome scene at the multifamily home in Lynn where suspect Joseph Wright lived with his mother and grandmother.
The victims, 54-year-old Donna Breau and 83-year-old Melba Trahant, had their throats slashed “from ear to ear” and the home was “saturated with blood.”
Their bodies were found Tuesday morning behind an elementary school in Saugus.
The 23-year-old Wright was caught by Canadian authorities as he tried to cross from Maine into New Brunswick.
A not guilty plea to murder charges was entered.
Wright’s attorney said he would seek a psychiatric evaluation for his client.
He had only recently moved back into his mother’s house. A neighbor said he’d accepted Jesus into his life.
He’s had a history of substance abuse and mental problems, but one has to ask: Which came first?
