AUGUSTA, Maine — The Augusta Police Department is investigating a report of an armed robbery Friday afternoon at the Rite Aid Pharmacy at the intersection of North Belfast Avenue and Bangor Street.
Though few details were available Friday night, Augusta police Sgt. Christopher Shaw said the robbery occurred about 4:20 p.m. and that after running north into the woods behind the store, the robber likely left the area in a vehicle.
“We arrived pretty quickly and quarantined the area,” Shaw said. A tracking dog team brought to the site was unable to find the suspect, he said.
The robber is believed to have gotten away with oxycodone and other pills. He remained at large as of 9 p.m.
Shaw said the robber is described as a white male, thin in build, with brown hair and blue eyes. He is between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

Another Rite Aid robbery…. WOW. When will Rite Aid beef up their security?
Probably when they are refused reimbursment by the insurance industry.
If a customer(s) were injured or killed when security people intervened the insurance company would have a far larger bill to pay than what some stolen drugs may cost. In the end we may just see drugs sold away from these retail stores where security is possible. The chains like Rite-Aid will never put here employees or customers in a confrontational situation.
Rite Aid has let more of there loss prevention team go, they have one in Bangor and that is it, for three stores, pretty bad
