BANGOR, Maine — Bangor police are investigating a robbery early Sunday morning in which a lone man brandishing a knife stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the Broadway Irving Mainway convenience store.

“We received a call about a robbery at their 489 Broadway location at 1:46 a.m. [Sunday],” said Sgt. Paul Kenison. “The lone male clerk said a male subject came into the store, presented a knife, and said he wanted money. The clerk opened the cash register and the subject fled on foot with the cash.”

Kennison said the male suspect, whom police are trying to get a better description of by reviewing store security camera footage, is a white male around 5 foot 7 inches tall and weighing 220-230 pounds. The suspect is believed to have fled on foot outbound on Broadway.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the incident is asked to call the Bangor police tip line at 947-7384, or to leave a message with Detective Erik Tall at ext. 5747.

  1. Thought I should mention that there is no such place as an Irving Mainway on Broadway, in fact I believe there is no business called Irving Mainway anymore, anywhere.  It’s is actually a Circle K convenience store.

    1. This was another classic shove the article out the door example. The description of the suspect in question is probably not even accurate and I am just going to go with the Circle K on Main St as where the robbery took place.  There I am a qualified journalist, thew some stuff together that was inaccurate and published it.

      1.  If the main story is not correct…it is pretty useless to begin with.  The “useless facts” in comments appear to be more useful information than the main article.

    2. Sshh… The paper has been working on altering reality lately, by having Meadow Brook and Penjajawoc Stream switch places; having a beam that sits about six feet below the roof level (and about 16 feet below the clock tower roof) at the new arena be the “highest point” of the arena; renaming Rolland F. Perry City Forest to Rolland H. Perry Forest; and giving Bangor a mayor, even though the position hasn’t existed since the 1930s…

      1. Note the Circle K sign. Irving is the brand of fuel. Circle K is the store.

And surprise, surprise, the paper cares not to correct the glaring error…

      1. That’s because that is the brand of fuel they sell.  There is also a giant red K with a circle around it right below the Irving sign.  Trust me, I work for this company.

        1. Technically its Irving.  Circle K rents the buildings they do not own them.

          1. Circle K was the store that was robbed, not Irving Mainway. There is no Mainway at that location.

    1. Isn’t the expression that there’s nothing good that happens after 2 am?  Maybe I’m wrong but that’s what we have always said

  2. I used to stop there late at night after work.   I stopped this practice due to the increased number of sketchy people I saw there with increasing frequency.  It amazes me how many people Bangor has up and about after midnight.  Oftentimes, McDonalds’ drive through is as busy at 1 a.m. as it is at noon.

On the way home I encounter at least 2 empty McDonalds bags in the middle of Broadway because apparently our nocturnal residents are also slobs.

I’ve worked the late shift for eons.  It’s never been as busy at midnight as it is now.

I don’t care what anyone says – a convenience store needs more than one person and a security camera  after midnight.  They make enough money to justify the hiring of extra help.
