BANGOR – Halton B. MacDonald, 95, passed away peacefully May 5, 2012, at a Lincoln health care center. He was born Feb. 28, 1917, in East Millinocket, the son of Bernard and Katherine (Lawler) MacDonald.
A graduate of Schenck High School, he earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from The Maine School of Commerce, now Husson University. After serving as a bank manager for Eastern Trust and Banking Co., he worked as an accountant for Empire Gas and Engineering, and for many years he was with Hedge & Mattheis Co. An active member of All Souls Congregational Church, he formerly held the post of treasurer and was a deacon of the church. After his retirement, Halton and his son George took particular pleasure in their numerous cruises together to various ports in the Caribbean. He was a loving, gracious man to all who knew him.
He is survived by his son, George of Bangor; his brother, Clayton MacDonald of Millinocket; his sister, Elaine Dollar of Paramount, Calif.; and several nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Emma (Townsend) MacDonald; his brother, Clarence MacDonald; and his sister, Alma Pratt. The family wishes to extend its heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Colonial Acres for their dedication, competence and considerable compassion toward Halton in his long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Dr. James L. Haddix, pastor and teacher of All Souls Congregational Church and the Rev. Rudolph Leveille, a neighbor, officiating. Friends may call 1 p.m. until time of the service Wednesday.
