BANGOR, Maine — A puppy missing since Wednesday when it bolted from its family in Bangor was found Sunday night hungry and tired but unharmed.
Rooster, a 6-month-old Aussie mix, ran into the outstretched arms of a woman who previously had provided a foster home for him, according to Cassandra Lang, who owns a dog rescue organization called Pack Life.
“We were in the woods every night but had no idea where to look until we started getting the sighting tips,” said Lang, who said response to posters that were hung all over Bangor and a story last week in the Bangor Daily News was very strong. “He’s perfectly fine and doesn’t have a scratch on him.”
Rooster was part of a litter brought to Maine by Pack Life from Texas earlier this year. He bolted from his new adoptive family Wednesday when they were buying supplies for him at a pet store on Stillwater Avenue.

Yay!!!
double yeah!
That’s the positive post I’ve seen in months…..a simple “Yay”……and it’s nice.
Yay !! Now maybe a harness would be best for this little guy. Much more difficult to slip out of. So glad he is safe.
At least until he is fully acclimated to his new family and his new forever home. Please, obey all leash laws!
good job cassandra
Yay, little puppy! Welcome home!
May that be a lesson for you little Rooster!
SUCH happy news!!! I’ve been so worried about him since hearing of his disappearance. Where was he found???
So, where was he found?
————————–
Amen to that (and for any lost pet)! I can just see Rooster jumping into those familiar arms! Does a body good.
So glad he is now safe and sound. I have 2 small Papillons and couldn’t imagine having to deal with one of them getting lost. with that being said, I am all for rescuing dogs from other parts of the country, but we have an ACO down east that is shipping dogs to Mass. and we always seem to have a lot of dogs in need here already. If dogs are being brought to Maine, I hope no dogs are going to euthinization because of an over population in the pounds and humane societies.
What a fabulous ending to this story! I think it was a great idea that his foster mom came to help. He hadn’t been with his new family long enough to be familiar with them, and I’m sure a familiar face is what he was looking for! I hope that he bonds well with his new family, and that this experience makes them very watchful puppy parents!
That is great!
What a good looking dog.. Glad the dog is safe!!!
AWESOME!!!!!
Glad the story has a happy ending, but please, please watch this little guy more carefully and don’t let him off a leash. I know he wasn’t lost intentionally, but he needs to be kept very, very safe. When you think of it, he’s only a “kid” and he’s been through a lot already.
Welcome Home Rooster, now get some food and relax buddy
Oooooohhhhh……so glad Rooster made it home unscathed. Poor thing must have been a wreck! Glad the BDN ran his story.
Just look at the pent up energy in his stance! He’s like a two year old that’s ready to defy you with a devilish grin and do what he wants.
I know my comment wasn’t very popular before about this, but while on the topic people need to be very careful about their pets getting loose. Loose pets can cause car accidents and police can issue summons for dogs being on the loose as well. That’s the sort of story you typically see in the paper, not a story about the initial loss. I know a few people that it has happened to and they have been fined for it, the police generally don’t care how the dog escapes either.
The police are just trying to pay the bills! Same reason I’ve seen a ticket for parking on the “esplanade” and one for parking on the sidewalk. Both times the tires were about an inch on the sandy patch between the road and sidewalk (which is obviously not the sidewalk, and doesn’t fit the definition of an esplanade either!).
Oh man I got one of those tickets once, blocking the sidewalk while parked in my driveway. It only took them 2 and a half years to finally ticket me…
Who, what, when, where, how, and why. Those are the basics.
WHERE was the dog found?
interesting and provocative comment……actually, a very prudent question.
ryan is simply asking the basics of journalism……and there are none shown. Nice ryan, you gotta keep the press on it’s toes as well. Who: someone let the dog loose, What: why did the dog get loose, (it being managed at a shelter)
When” since Wednesday, (they got that one right) How? What happened to allow the dog to get loose? and…finally Why?…now there’s the question?
This story made my week! Thanks to all who helped!
Welcome home rooster! So happy your safe!
That is a good story with a happy ending!!
Best news I have heard in a while.
Thanks to all involved in bringing Rooster in safe and sound.
Very happy this pup was found well and returned home!!
My guess is he was in City Forest but it would be nice to know for sure.
YEAH!!! great news indeed!!!!
