GUILFORD, Conn. – J. Robert Henneberry passed away peacefully Fri-day, May 11, 2012, surrounded by family in Guilford, Conn. Bob was born March 13, 1920, at home on Collins Avenue, Amesbury, Mass.

He graduated from St. James High School, Haverhill, Mass., and went on to study at Northeastern University, Boston. In 1942, Bob married Mary Virginia Hart of Haverhill, Mass., and shortly after, began service in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He also proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Bob worked for New England Telephone Co. for 35 years, retiring March 1, 1980, as service center supervisor in Newburyport, Mass. He also served as director of Veterans’ Services, New-buryport, Mass., for 10 years retiring in 1990. Bob was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Newburyport, Mass., where he was also a member of Knights of Columbus. An avid sailor, he was treasurer and commodore of American Yacht Club, and a volunteer at Maritime Museum, Newburyport, Mass. A popular and civic-minded individual, Bob served on the board of directors for Council on Aging, Newburyport, Mass., and was an active member of Pioneers of New England Telephone Co.

Bob is survived by three children: son, James R. Henne-berry and wife, Reta, of Madison, Conn., daughter, Jayne and husband, Jim Dyer, of Hampden, and daughter, Judith and husband, Paul McGill, of Old Lyme, Conn.; seven grandchildren, Jay Henneberry, Amy Cutler, Sarah and Katherine Mullen, and Alyssa, Hayley and Ainsley McGill; as well as five great-grandchildren, Kate and Shaun Henneberry, and McCoy, Avery and Callan Cutler. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Virginia; and sisters, Elea-nor Lancaster and Mary Garfi.

Visiting hours for family and friends will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, May 18, at Elliott Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green St., Newburyport, Mass. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at Immaculate Conception Church, 42 Green St., Newburyport, Mass. Burial will be after at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Newburyport, Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to The Council on Aging, P.O.
