ALBION, Maine — One man died and another one was seriously injured Tuesday morning when the building they were working on collapsed upon them, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Robert Rodriques, 52, of Augusta was killed and Linwood “Hazen” Stover, 55, of Augusta was injured and is being treated at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Waterville, McCausland said Tuesday afternoon.
The two men were attempting to replace support beams on a camp on Lovejoy Pond and had jacked up the structure when it “apparently shifted and slipped off the posts, crushing the two men, who were underneath,” McCausland said.
A third worker, Michael Sterling, 54, of Farmingdale, was not under the building at the time and called first responders about 9:45 a.m.
The camp, owned by Carol Churchill of Augusta, is located at 120 Marden Shore Road.
McCausland said Stover is the owner of Kennebec Home Improvement.
Firefighters used a Jaws of Life device to “lift the building off the two victims,” McCausland said.
