AUGUSTA, Maine — Trustees of a Maine electrical workers union’s trust fund have filed a lawsuit to recover $260,000 they say the fund’s now-dead administrator embezzled.

The lawsuit filed Monday in Kennebec County Superior Court alleges that Donald Sarette stole the money to cover up a theft from another union’s trust fund.

The 56-year-old Sarette died in January when his car struck a bridge abutment in Candia, N.H.

Peter DeTroy, a lawyer for the Fairfield-based International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1253, said he planned to meet with Sarette to see how he proposed to repay the embezzled money shortly before he died.

The electrical workers are suing to recover money from the Augusta-based United Association Local 716 trust fund.

The Kennebec Journal reported that the complaint alleges Sarette “improperly diverted funds.”

  1. Hahahaahahahahahahahaahhahahahahahahaahahahahahah!!!  The third time I’ve laughed at something union related today.  When are we gonna rid ourselves of these corrupt entities.

  2.  $260,000.00  “diverted funds” and the union lawyer was going to see how he proposed to repay the embezzled money. Did they call the police or was the plan to keep it quiet?

    1. It probably never occurred to him, as the police are union brothers and sisters. Who needs proper procedure and technicalities when your troops have ultimate control?

  3. It was not the union that embezzled the money.  It was a non-union entity that administered the funds.  The union lawyer was asking the person who miss appropriated the funds, how he expected to pay the local fund back

  4. What is it with Fairfield area same thing happened to Ironworkers Local 496 in Clinton, an official stole 100,000 plus ,local ended up being swallowed up by Local 7 in Boston ,International came in covered all the missing money ,all covered up ,when the official should have gone to jail AND  been sued.
