CONCORD, N.H. — One of three defendants in the disappearance and death of a Maine mother whose body was found in a ski area pond last year will plead guilty, New Hampshire Attorney General Michael Delaney said Wednesday.
Anthony Papile, of Ossipee, will enter a plea and be sentenced on Thursday in Carroll County Superior Court, Delaney said.
Papile is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 20-year-old Portland, Maine, resident Krista Dittmeyer, whose car was found idling in the Cranmore Mountain ski area parking lot in Conway in April 2011. Dittmeyer’s 14-month-old daughter was found unharmed inside the car.
Dittmeyer’s body was found in the ski area’s snowmaking pond four days later.
Senior Assistant Attorney General Jane Young would not say Wednesday to what charge Papile, 29, would plead.
Papile’s lawyer, public defender Jesse Friedman, said he would not comment on the details of what will transpire Thursday, except to say, “My expectation is it will be resolved.”
Papile was arraigned in May 2011 along with Michael Petelis, also of Ossipee, and Trevor Ferguson, of Tamworth.
Young said conspiracy to commit robbery charges are pending against Petelis and Ferguson. None of the three has been indicted, and little has happened publicly in the case for the past year. It’s unclear who represents Petelis and Ferguson, and no working telephone listings for them could be found.
In court documents, prosecutors outlined a plot by Papile and Petelis to ambush Dittmeyer to steal drugs and money from her.
Prosecutors say Dittmeyer was lured to Petelis’ home on April 22, 2011. Soon after she arrived around 9:45 p.m., they say, Papile ambushed her as she climbed the stairs to the apartment, striking her on the head with a rubber club.
Papile and Petelis bound her with duct tape and put her in the trunk of her car, prosecutors say. Papile, they say, drove her car to the Cranmore Mountain ski area parking lot and put her in the pond.
Prosecutors would not say whether Dittmeyer was alive when she was submerged in the pond.
Papile has been held without bail. Petelis and Ferguson are being held on $250,000 bail.
Dittmeyer grew up in Bridgton, Maine, about 25 miles from Conway. She moved to Portland shortly after her 2008 high school graduation and had been working as a waitress at a South Portland restaurant, a relative said.
What makes these idiots think they can take someones life and get away with it?
they are following the same thing as the last “twenty” people have followed, claim you killed for some other reason and you get lesser charges. Seems to be everyone’s “get out jail” free card.
They killed her to steal her drugs??
What did she have for drugs ?
Was she a dealer?
Thought she was a waitress?
Tragic,bad stuff , all around.
I think the guys are just saying they were going after her for drugs and money. Thinking they will get a lesser sentence or something. They should rott in hell. No one deserves to be murdered no matter what they were involved in in life. ( If the drug story they tell is true)
Unforgivable. They should all be put in the same prison as the father of her child.
