SURRY – Jane A. Blethen, 63, died May 20, 2012, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Dec. 14, 1948, in Ellsworth, daughter of Donald T. Hooper and J. Joy (Ingalls) Hooper.
Jane was a graduate of Career Academy of Nursing, Boston, later becoming a licensed social worker. For 16 years she worked at Birchwood Living Center, Ellsworth, where one of her most rewarding challenges was taking a group of clients to Disney World. She was also a volunteer with Hospice of Hancock County and most recently a volunteer at Friendship Cottage, Blue Hill.
Jane is survived by her devoted husband of 28 years, Scott A. Blethen; mother, J. Joy Small and stepfather, Bud Small, of Surry; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marilyn and Selden Blethen of Ellsworth; sister-in-law, Renee Dunning and husband, Ward, of Cotuit, Mass.; brother-in-law, Gregg Blethen and wife, Dawn, of Ellsworth; and special friend, Josh Rosenthal of Hampden. She was predeceased by her father, Donald; and brother, David Hooper.
At Jane’s request, a private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers and keeping with Jane’s love of animals, contributions may be made in her name to SPCA of Hancock County, 141 Bar Harbor Road, Trenton, ME 04605.
