CARIBOU – Lewis J. Ouellette, 77, died May 23, 2012, at his residence after a long illness. He was born March 24, 1935, in Caribou, son of the late Albenie and Sophie (Michaud) Ouellette.
Mr. Ouellette was employed as a compressor operator with Birds Eye Division of General Foods, Caribou, for more than 30 years. He attended Holy Rosary Catholic Church and on June 27, 1955, he married Sylvia Gahagan. Lewis loved to garden, fish, play cards and cribbage, but he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael and Kathy Ouellette of Woodland and Peter Ouellette and fiancee, Terri Hallowell, of Caribou; six daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Randy Dodd of Woodland, Peggy and Bobby Winquest of Holly Hill, S.C., Connie and John Lloyd of Caribou, Ann and Kevin Chapman of Woodland, Lori and Allan Detoma of Summerville, S.C., and Lisa and Art Berkoski of Caribou; two brothers, Clifford Ouellette of Caribou and Bert Ouellette of Old Town; three sisters, Lucille Carrier of Waterville, Jeanette Pierce of Connecticut and Leona Chassie of Caribou; 20 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Mr. Ouellette was predeceased by his wife, Sylvia, in 2009; infant son, Paul; nine brothers, Norman, Leo, Herbie, Clarence, Raymond, Gerald, Billy, Reynold “Pete” and Charlie; sister, Isabelle McDougal; and a great-grandchild, Marissa Lloyd.
Friends may visit with the family 7-9 p.m. Friday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, May 26, from Parish of the Precious Blood Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Interment will be at Old Holy Rosary Cemetery.
