WHITEFIELD, Maine — Officials in Maine say a 20-year-old man was flown by helicopter to a burn treatment center after a campfire flared up and burned his head and arms.

Lynn Talacko, Whitefield’s deputy chief for emergency medical services, said the accident happened about 9:45 p.m. Sunday in a backyard in Whitefield.

Talacko told MaineToday Media that the man, whose identity was not released, suffered first-degree burns.

Isn’t a first degree burn just a minor irritation – like a sunburn? It hardly seems like a helicopter ride to a hospital would be necessary for that.  There must be something more to the story that they left out.
